Destiny 2 Is Bringing Back Its Most  Iconic Character, See The Trailer

Cayde-6 is back from the dead in Destiny 2, and Nathan Fillion has returned to voice the Exo Hunter.

Given that Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion is only a couple of months old, nobody actually expected to see the promotional video for The Final Shape during PlayStation Showcase— which featured a new PlayStation 5 handheld and an announcement of Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. The Destiny 2 trailer, though short, has revealed that one of the franchise’s best characters, voiced by Nathan Fillion of Firefly, is coming back to the game.

According to Kotaku, The Final Shape will be the final expansion in Destiny 2’s decade-long Light and Darkness saga, and it’s bringing back a beloved character and a familiar voice to the story. Nathan Fillion is scheduled to return as Cayde-6, a fan-favorite Exo Hunter who died in the early days of Destiny 2. The franchise is well known for killing off fan-favorite characters, as we’ve seen from the death of Amanda Holliday. But just like Cayde-6, Amanda, too, might make a shocking return to the franchise.

The trailer for The Final Shape shows Ikora Rey sitting and drinking by the fire and reflecting on the journey the company has been on since the beginning of the narrative in the original 2014’s Destiny. The camera then switches to a silhouette sitting across Ikora Rey, revealing first the iconic pistol and then Nathan Fillion’s Cayde-6 from behind the fire, which hints towards the Destiny 2 universe becoming weirder than it currently is. Cayde-6 stands up, holsters his weapon, and says, “But hey, I’m here now.”

This is a huge reveal for the franchise and the fandom of Destiny 2, Cayde-6, and Firefly actor Nathan Fillion. Cayde-6 has been the heart and humor of Destiny, even during the first campaign, and has held a special place in fandoms’ hearts, with many hoping that the character would return to the game someday—which is actually happening right now. But the return of Nathan Fillion is what makes Cayde-6’s reveal so exciting.

Cayde-6

Cayde-6 was initially voiced by Nathan Fillion in the first Destiny, but for some reason, the actor hasn’t returned to the role in its limited appearance in Forsaken, a Destiny 2 expansion that actually centered around Cayde-6’s death. Instead, the character was voiced by Nolan North—who actually voices Ghost—trying to perform his best Nathan Fillion impression. Admittedly, his performance wasn’t too shabby; he did a fine Cayde-6, but it couldn’t compare to the character’s original voice.

As for how the iconic Exo-Hunter made its way back from the dead, we can only speculate. The entire trailer takes place in an unknown place that doesn’t resemble any known location within Destiny 2. It most likely has to do with the ending of the current expansion, with the upcoming The Final Shape taking place inside a portal that the Witness cut into the Traveler, but if that’s where we met Nathan Fillion’s Cayde-6 in Destiny 2, the number of question popping into mind are too much to count, ask, and seek answers to before The Final Shape launches on August 22, 2023.

In other Destiny 2-related news, besides the return of Nathan Fillion, Bungie wants to let Guardians fish and cook, and the game has finally dropped its worst element after years of fandom’s pleas. Stay tuned for more updates!
