It was back in February when we exclusively reported that Kevin Bacon of Footloose fame had been cast in MaXXXine, the next chapter in Ti West’s slasher series that began with last year’s X. Now the studio, A24, has confirmed our scoop. As you can see for yourself below, earlier today A24 posted a teaser from its official Twitter account listing the cast of the upcoming sequel, including Kevin Bacon.

Of course, Kevin Bacon isn’t the only name mentioned in the MaXXXine teaser. The sequel will also star Michelle Monaghan (Gone Baby Gone), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Lily Collins (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man), Halsey (The Huntsman: Winter’s War), and Moses Sumney (Creed). Mia Goth returns as the titular adult film star as well as the only character to survive the events of X.

By boarding the cast of MaXXXine, Kevin Bacon will be joining the acclaimed franchise that has rightly been credited for part of what some might call a cinematic horror renaissance. In X, Mia Goth not only played Maxine, but one of the older villains, Pearl. Later in 2022 A24 gave fans the pleasant surprise of the prequel Pearl in which Goth played the titular killer in an origin story set in 1918.

Kevin Bacon is no stranger to the horror genre or slashers like MaXXXine. Even before he starred up in some of his most beloved films like Footloose or Tremors, Bacon showed up in 1980’s Friday the 13th as one of the franchise’s very first victims. He would go on to star in horror films like You Should Have Left, Stir of Echoes, Hollow Man, and last year’s They/Them.

Writer/director Ti West previously said that MaXXXine will in part deal with the emergence of home videos, and what A24 has confirmed about the film bears that out. Rather than a prequel like Pearl, the sequel will take place after the events of X, with Mia Goth’s hero trying to make it as an actor in 1980s Los Angeles.

MaXXXine isn’t the only upcoming film Kevin Bacon is confirmed to be a part of, or even the only slasher. Another slasher film that promises to be a lot different than MaXXXine — the reboot of The Toxic Avenger — will see Bacon starring alongside Elijah Wood and Peter Dinklage. He’s also joining Eddie Murphy for the long-awaited sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, as well as starring in the Netflix thriller Leave the World Behind.
