This phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe offerings is already trending a bit darker and more foreboding than what we’ve seen in the past from the studio. There’s been a noticeable shift in how the stories are shaping up with the idea that the post-Avengers timeline will see a world that has all sorts of darker elements introduced. One of those series is most definitely going to be Moon Knight with Oscar Isaac leading a show that looks like it will very much mess with your head. They are implying as much with the character at least beginning the series very much confused about his own reality. The latest trailer for Moon Knight let on that this will be as much a psychological thriller as anything else.

In the latest Moon Knight trailer, which aired on Sunday during the Super Bowl, we see Oscar Isaac struggling with his own reality, clearly not able to distinguish between his waking life and his dreams. It lends itself to a show that will play with reality as Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector walks through a world that increasingly makes him doubt his own sanity. This is all as he tries to distinguish what is happening in his own head from what might be occurring in the real world. It makes for a very trippy presentation, much different than what we’ve seen from the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. Check out Oscar Isaac in the trailer for the Disney+ series Moon Knight.

From the beginning, we know that Oscar Isaac’s character is conflicted with his own psyche, represented in some part by the odd English accent he breaks out to start. It stands out because neither Isaac nor his Marc Spector character is from Britain. But there are suggestions that early on, this character is suffering from a dissociative identity disorder that means he can’t necessarily remember what’s happened to him in the past. This would seem to include his becoming Moon Knight, imbued with the power of the Egyptian god Khonshu. Isaac sees clues that the Moon Knight has very much become part of him, but at least at the beginning that character’s actions are out of his control.

Set to the haunting track “Day ’N’ Night” by Kid Cudi, the Moon Knight trailer flashes us through Oscar Isaac’s world as he works to figure out just what the hell is going on in his head and in his world. It is setting the stage to screw with the viewers just as much, pointing to a possibly scarier series than we’ve seen before from this studio. And along the way, he meets Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow, a creepy and mysterious figure who clearly has an interest in Spector. From early notes and looks at the series, Harrow is some kind of cult leader who could also be a version of the Sun King from the comics.

In all, Oscar Isaac and Moon Knight are setting the stage for what could be more a psychological thriller than anything we’ve seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This appears to be definitely the trend in some new projects with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness giving off similar vibes. Moon Knight will debut on Disney+ on March 30th
