1980s Cult Classic Horror Comedy Returning As Miniseries?

Though the Killer Klowns From Outer Space movie release was a slow burn for many, the movie has become a cult classic. The whacky creation of a group of colorful and killer clowns that chase folks around with a popcorn gun all stemmed from the creative mind of the Chiodo brothers. Decades later, there are plans to turn the story into streaming miniseries.

The Creators Always Wanted To Make More Killer Klowns Content

The original movie was released way back in 1988, but the Chiodo brothers never planned for the film to be a standalone piece. For years, the creators of Killer Klowns From Outer Space have been taking steps to create a sequel to the movie to no avail. Stephen Chiodo and his writer/producer brothers Charles and Edward have been working with Grant Cramer (Mike Tobacco – Killer Klowns From Outer Space) on a legacy sequel. Now that Cramer has some production experience under his belt (Willy’s WonderlandNicolas Cage) he is even more of an asset to the team.

Having Problems With The Sequel, A Miniseries Is Now In The Works

Unfortunately, the “team” has come up against an immovable rights issue that has been preventing them from moving forward on a sequel. That doesn’t mean the crew can’t come up with a different way to get their ideas out to fans.

In a recent interview for SFX Magazine, Stephen Chiodo talked a little about what the brothers plan to do now to expand the Killer Klowns From Outer Space legacy. The most recent mission is to do an eight-part miniseries aimed at the most popular streaming channels of today.

Old And New Characters

Chiodo went on to explain that the new miniseries would follow a whole new group of teenagers who encounter the Killer Klowns From Outer Space. They will also run into a familiar character, Mike Tobacco, who is now living as a drunk in his van. This time, the invasion is much bigger, and the group of teens ends up being transported to the alien Klown planet. This move opens up creative avenues to have a little fun designing animals and other creatures who live on the Klown planet.

The Video Game Might Serve As Inspiration

Chiodo also mentioned that the new project could make way for the brothers to bring in a new Klown. Chiodo said, “We have lots of great ideas about where this universe goes,” and fans of Killer Klowns From Outer Space are certainly ready to see what’s rolling around in that mind of his. Hopefully, the new Killer Klowns From Outer Space video game will become a useful tool to rekindle the rage surrounding the Klown universe. There are several trailers available online that show the look and gameplay of the new game, but it doesn’t look like it’s made it to the shelves yet. Just like a Killer Klowns From Outer Space sequel, the game has encountered its own hurdles along the path to release. Once the game does hit the shelves, you can be sure there will be a rise in interest regarding a sequel. Maybe, just maybe, that will be enough to help clear a path for the Chiodo brothers to move forward with a new miniseries.

When Does The Game Release?

As far as is known now, the new Killer Klowns From Outer Space game should be released early next year (2024), so keep your eyes peeled and help keep the vibe alive.
