Good news, John Wick fans, Keanu Reeves confirmed that he has a cameo in the upcoming John Wick spin-off Ballerina. According to ComicBook.com, Reeves was quoted as saying, “There’s a reason for [John] to be in Ballerina; it’s very organic.” Keanu’s endorsement of Ballerina should hopefully set the film up for the same success as the mainline Wick entries.

Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as a female assassin seeking revenge for the murder of her family. The film won’t be the first time Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas have shared the screen together. The duo also starred together in the 2015 Eli Roth thriller Knock Knock.

The original John Wick was a 2014 action movie starring Reeves as a retired hitman on a quest to avenge his dead dog. The film was such a hit that it spawned a whole franchise consisting of three sequels and (as of now) one spin-off. For Reeves, Wick was just one more series to add to the growing list of film franchises the actor stars in.

The Bill & Ted trilogy and the Matrix series had both already cemented Keanu Reeves as one of the most popular movie stars in the world. John Wick, however, just might be the actor’s most iconic role.

Ana de Armas is no stranger to big franchises herself. The Cuban-born actress portrayed Joi in the movie Blade Runner 2049 as well as Paloma in 2021’s James Bond outing No Time To Die. Ballerina, however, is sure to be like no other role the Blonde actress has attempted.

The John Wick films are primarily showcases for intense action setpieces, something that Keanu Reeves thinks will be no problem for his Ballerina co-star. Reeves has endorsed Ana as a fellow action hero and said that de Armas “really loves action” and is “really good at it.”

No one can predict if audiences will show up for Ballerina as enthusiastically as they did for John Wick. When the similarly action-oriented Bourne Identity series released the spin-off The Bourne Legacy, swapping out Matt Damon for Jeremy Renner, it proved to be less successful than the mainline Bourne entries. As a result, the franchise abandoned Renner’s story and brought back Matt Damon soon after.

However, the difference between Ballerina and Legacy is the inclusion of the star of the main series. Now that Keanu Reeves has confirmed his involvement in the spin-off, it could be just the push John Wick fans need to get them off their couches and into the theater.

The size of Keanu Reeves’ role in the upcoming spin-off remains to be seen. Could it be nothing more than a brief cameo like the ones the actor did for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run and the Key and Peele comedy Keanu? Or will Reeves play a more substantial role in Ballerina‘s story?

Ballerina is listed on IMDb as still in production, meaning that it might be quite a while before we find out any more information about Keanu Reeves’ involvement. Luckily, we have John Wick 4 to tide us over until then.
