J.K. Rowling isn’t the only name associated with Harry Potter who’s rubbing fans the wrong way as Miriam Margolyes, the actress behind Professor Sprout, is coming for those now grown-up fans who are still obsessed with The Wizarding World. While the octogenarian can easily understand why new audiences of children are still drawn to the stories first released in the late ‘90s, she doesn’t quite get the hold they have over grown adults. Sending a message of “it’s over,” Margolyes said, “I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now.”

An absolute burn to anyone who may still find themselves enthralled in the story of the boy who lived, the Harry Potter star definitely stung with that one. She went on to say that books and movies are “for children” and that those above their teenage years have no business holding onto the past. Explaining that she’s nervous for those who “get stuck in it,” the BAFTA Award-winning actress says that she hopes people can pick up and move on with their lives just as she has.

In the Harry Potter film series, Miriam Margolyes appeared as Professor Sprout, one of the teaching staff employed at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Like many other performers, Margolyes is on the platform Cameo, where users pay their favorite stars to send messages to their loved ones. Although Harry Potter fans are undoubtedly helping to pay her bills, the actress didn’t hold back in bashing those who reveal that they’re going to have a wedding themed around Harry’s adventures. “I think, ‘Gosh what’s their first night of fun going to be?’” Margolyes says of those specific requests.

While nothing has been stirred up just yet, Margolyes sass will certainly not be appreciated by Harry Potter fans when her words continue to make their way around the internet. Fandoms like this one and others including Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and Star Trek are rather die-hard when it comes to protecting their own and they certainly won’t care for the entertainer’s opinions on the matter.

Even with Miriam Margolyes’s judgment, the Harry Potter fandom will continue to thrive as Universal Studios’ theme parks continue to gather guests into their themed rides and shops.

There, she worked alongside other teachers of higher education, including Severus Snape (Alan Rickman), Minerva McGonagall (Maggie Smith), Sybill Trelawney (Emma Thompson), and Professor Albus Dumbledore (Richard Harris, Michael Gambon).

Right now, in both Orlando and Hollywood, those hoping to toss on a robe and pick up a wand can do just that while enjoying Butterbeer and taking a ride through Hogwarts alongside Harry, Hermoine, and Ron.

And, even though the films came to a conclusion more than a decade ago, the legacy lives on as HBO has announced plans to move forward with a Harry Potter series. The project, which will involve the book’s author, J.K. Rowling, is still in the early production stages but is expected to arrive on the network in 2026. As of right now, specific plot details haven’t been revealed, but it’s expected that the series will follow Rowling’s books, with each season covering the pages of one installment. The original cast members – including Miriam Margolyes – are not expected to return.
