Disney+ is encouraging its subscribers to save some cash and hop on its ad-supported tier. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer is running a sale beginning today through September 20 that will see the price for the ad tier drop from $7.99 per month to $1.99 per month for three months.

If you’re looking to put some change back into your pockets (or perhaps add another streaming service with that extra cash), the savings will come out to $18 for the three months.

Disney+ is offering a subscription deal of $1.99 for its ad-supported tier for the first three months.

Open to both new subscribers and those who have been with Disney+ for a long time, the offer is a great one for users looking to dip their feet into ad-supported programming. As for what it means for the House of Mouse’s streamer, it appears that they may be trying to make a little extra cash themselves in the final quarter of the year.

After a summer season that saw the studio’s box office earnings fluctuate with titles including Elemental and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Disney is likely hoping to bring those who didn’t make it out to the cinema for at-home viewing.

Although Dial of Destiny has yet to hit Disney+, Elemental will be arriving just in time for the kick-off of the ad-supported tier on September 13. A must-see for Disney and Pixar fans, Elemental gave the studio a heart attack when its opening weekend looked to be another flop akin to last year’s Lightyear.

Quickly turning things around, the animated flick went on to be one of the top-grossers of the summer, raking in over $400 million at the global box office.

The highly-anticipated live-action series, Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as the titular lightsaber-wielding character, arrived a few weeks ago…

Along with Elemental, Disney+ has also released exciting new content for the Star Wars and Marvel lovers out there. The highly-anticipated live-action series, Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as the titular lightsaber-wielding character, arrived a few weeks ago marking another must-see series in the Star Wars universe alongside others including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

As the holiday season approaches, Black Friday is on the horizon with the anticipation that streamers, including Disney+, will market even more saving opportunities.

Although the final installment of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise may have bowed out in the spring, there are more stories on the way when it comes to Groot.

The second season of I Am Groot will likely draw new subscribers to the ad-supported Disney+ tier along with the recently released live-action version of The Little Mermaid which just swam onto the platform.

While this new push for ad-supported content will likely bring in a handful of new Disney+ subscribers as well as longtime users looking to save a couple of bucks, many may also be holding out for deal announcements expected later in the year.

Whatever way you cut it, making money is the name of the game when it comes to Disney+’s push for subscribers to opt for ad-supported viewing. A win-win for the House of Mouse, whether you choose to pay more for no ads or support them through commercial viewing, the studio is still making hand over fist.
