There have already been a lot of changes brewing over at the Disney headquarters in the few weeks since Bob Chapek stepped down as CEO of the company and his predecessor took over the job. Popular former CEO and now newly reinstated CEO, Bob Iger, seems to be leading the company into a transitionary stage, which means many of Chapek’s plans for the future will probably be adjusted. Reporter Grace Randolph posted a tweet today suggesting one change that Bob Iger intends to make that is already upsetting fans of the Daredevil: Born Again series, which includes possibly changing the series’ rating down from a mature rating.

In her tweet, Randolph mentioned that while Chapek was okay with giving the Marvel series a more mature rating, Iger is second-guessing his predecessor’s decision and is leaning more towards creating a PG-13 series. Randolph’s tweet confirms fan fears that Marvel’s traditionally violent character, Daredevil, might be watered down a bit since Disney announced that the show would be moving from Netflix to Disney+

Understandably, Marvel fans are upset at the possible news that Bob Iger is toning down Daredevil; and they’re also perplexed. Disney has already announced that another fan-favorite and infamously violent character would be getting an R-rated movie. The creators of Deadpool 3 promised the third film would follow the same tone as its prequels, which were produced by 20th Century Fox before Disney acquired the company in 2019.

If Deadpool can get an R-rating, then why not Daredevil, too? Many fans have responded to Randolph’s tweet, expressing their opinions that it would be nice for Disney to create more mature Marvel content instead of always keeping it family-friendly. According to Randolph, Bob Iger is still deciding Daredevil’s fate, meaning that fans can only sit back and wait to see what the Disney CEO ultimately decides.

The plot of Daredevil: Born Again has been kept tightly under wraps, and no synopsis is known at this time. Not having any idea what might be involved with the story makes it hard to figure out what changes Bob Iger might consider for the new Daredevil series. However, the show is expected to be completely different from the Netflix series that ran for three seasons.

So far, what we know of the new series is that Charlie Cox will be reprising his role as Daredevil/Matt Murdock, and Vincent D’Onofrio will be back as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Since both actors will be reprising their roles from Netflix’s Daredevil, it seems unlikely that Daredevil: Born Again will reboot the story in its entirety. More likely, the series will somewhat pick up where Netflix’s Daredevil left off, though viewers can expect a change of tone and story.

While the news of Bob Iger toning down Daredevil: Born Again may be disappointing to some fans, some fear that it could ultimately lead to a lot more changes in Marvel content down the road. If Daredevil becomes PG-13, what about other future projects? Could this change ultimately lead to a PG-13-rated Deadpool in the future? While it seems unlikely, all we can do is wait to find out.
