Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth

Though Timothy Olyphant has only seen a small amount of screen time in the Star Wars universe, he has expressed unguarded enthusiasm over the possibility of reprising his role as Cobb Vanth, according to CBR. To date, the Justified star has only been in one episode of The Mandalorian, and two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett, but has stated that if he gets asked by Dave Filoni to return to the franchise in any capacity, he would gladly do so.

“It was a ball working on those things and those guys know if they call me I’d show up. I don’t care if it’s a big giant thing or just to show up for an afternoon. It’s a fun gig.”

Timothy Olyphant on a Star Wars return

Though much of the development of the upcoming Mandalorian movie is under wraps, it sounds to us that Timothy Olyphant isn’t done with Star Wars if he doesn’t have to be.

By now it’s no mystery that Timothy Olyphant is an actor hard at work, and it’s clear that he had a great time on-set while working on Star Wars-related properties. In regard to possibly working with Dave Filoni once again, Olyphant has stated that it doesn’t matter how significant or minor the role is. In his own words, he suggested that if he received a call, he’d show up, and he doesn’t care if it’s a large commitment on his part, or just an afternoon’s work.

The Mandalorian

Until more details emerge, we don’t know if the possibility of Timothy Olyphant returning to Star Wars is part of the bigger plan. It’s been rumored, however, that The Mandalorian will return in the form of a feature film instead of a fourth season. But it’s worth noting that it’s too soon to tell, because further developments are hinging on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes being resolved.

Despite Timothy Olyphant’s brief stint with the Star Wars franchise, his performance was praised, and he was even nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

Considering that Cobb Vanth’s backstory involves him acquiring Boba Fett’s armor, and subsequently making a deal with the Mandalorian in a plot to use a bantha as a suicide bomber to kill the krayt dragon, it’s safe to say that Timothy Olyphant’s contribution to the Season 2 premiere of the Mandalorian was not only memorable, but well-received by fans and critics alike.

In other words, not all screen-time is created equal, and it’s evident that Timothy Olyphant’s contributions, though short-lived, were significant to the series.

Despite Timothy Olyphant’s brief stint with the Star Wars franchise, his performance was praised, and he was even nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

In an ideal world, we’ll see Timothy Olyphant make yet another appearance in the upcoming Dave Filoni Star Wars movie. But for the time being, we’ll have to wait to see how everything is going to shake out. Presently, it’s not even 100 percent clear whether The Mandalorian will continue as a feature film, or in the form of a fourth season of the series.

As of April 2023, it was announced at Star Wars Celebration London that the upcoming feature film will conclude the stories that have been told up to this point through The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. And it goes without saying that if Timothy Olyphant returns to Star Wars, we’ll be glad to see him, even if his role only plays a small part in the overall storytelling.
