The Best Sci-Fi Show Today Gets New Season And Spinoff

By Douglas Helm | Published

Good news For All Mankind fans: the forever underrated Apple TV+ series is getting a fifth season and a spin-off titled Star City. Fans of the flagship series will be familiar with the show’s premise of an alternate history after the Soviet Union beat the United States to the moon. Star City will give us a look into the story from the Soviet point of view, kicking off with how they won the space race against America.

For All Mankind Season 5

The For All Mankind executive producers, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi will be showrunners on Star City, and the two dropped a press release expressing their excitement, saying. “The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race.” There’s no info yet on whether the fifth season of the flagship series will show up first or if the spin-off will come out before that.

Approaching The Modern Day

Season 4 of For All Mankind left off with the world racing to control a resource-rich asteroid that was found near the Happy Valley mining colony on Mars. Season 5 will pick up where that season left off and show us an alternate version of the 2010s, bringing the series closer and closer to the modern day. Meanwhile, fans will continue to count their lucky stars as this incredible sci-fi series continues to be renewed by Apple TV+.

Universal Praise From Fans And Critics

For All Mankind has been universally praised by critics and audiences alike, but it still feels like the show isn’t getting as many viewers as it deserves. Perhaps expanding the world with the Star City spin-off will continue to build the show’s fanbase and ensure the series gets to end on its own terms. In the age of streaming, where companies are all too eager to cancel shows, this one deserves to make it to the end.

Seven Seasons And A Spinoff

Writers of For All Mankind have previously said that the plan is to make about seven seasons that span 70 years of alternate history. With the renewal of Season 5, we’re getting closer to the show’s endgame, and Apple may be willing to see this through until the end. If you haven’t checked out the show yet, now is a great time to do so, and more new viewers will definitely help secure the show’s future.
