Megan Fox got her career start back in the early 2000s with a number of placements in television series such as Ocean Ave and Hope & Faith, as well as a few front-and-center film roles including 2007’s Transformers, 2009’s Jennifer’s Body, and 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Since then, Fox has become a household name both for her on-screen performances in recent hits such as Expend4bles and a voice role in the hit video game Mortal Kombat 1 and her headline-grabbing relationship with pop singer Machine Gun Kelly.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly starred alongside one another in a film titled Midnight In The Switchgrass back in 2021, which is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video.

Megan Fox teamed with Bruce Willis for Midnight In The Switchgrass, available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Midnight In The Switchgrass was written by Alan Horsnail and directed by The Irishman producer Randall Emmett. The film stars Megan Fox alongside a number of massive stars, including Machine Gun Kelly, Lukas Haas, Caitlin Carmichael, Olive Abercrombie, Sistine Rose Stallone, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood‘s Emile Hirsch, and legendary film performer Bruce Willis. The film serves as one of the last outings of Bruce Willis’ storied career, as the star has retreated from public life in recent months amid declining health following his Aphasia diagnosis.

For Megan Fox, Midnight In The Switchgrass was a return to Hollywood as the leading woman previously took time away from the spotlight to focus on her personal life and influencer career. The crime thriller ran a limited theatrical release following its June 13, 2021, premiere at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in partnership with Lionsgate to distribute. After a brief and ultimately unsuccessful theater run, the film became available on video on demand and streaming on platforms such as Amazon.

Midnight In The Switchgrass is based on the true tale of the infamous ‘Truck Stop Killer’ who terrorized the state of Texas in the mid-1990s. Bruce Willis portrays FBI agent Karl Helter as he hunts for the killer alongside his partner, Megan Fox’s Rebecca Lombardo. The investigation into a nefarious sex trafficking ring eventually leads them to team up with investigators operating out of Florida who have been hot on the heels of an abduction case that intertwines with the killer for years.

Midnight In The Switchgrass was widely panned upon its release, but it’s a perfectly serviceable serial killer film that just happens to star Megan Fox.

After Megan Fox’s character becomes abducted by the killer herself, Emile Hirsch’s detective, Byron must act fast to uncover the details of the killer’s mysterious whereabouts. Though fans of Megan Fox’s extracurricular career as an online personality championed the film at release, Midnight In The Switchgrass was critically panned with a host of terrible reviews, resulting in an abysmal single-digit critic score of only 8 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was also nominated for a pair of Golden Raspberry awards, including Worst Actress for Megan Fox and the incredibly niche Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie for Bruce Willis.

According to behind-the-scenes tales of the film’s production, Bruce Willis shot all of his scenes for Midnight In The Switchgrass in a single day, making it clear why his performance feels so flat and phoned-in. This tidbit also reveals exactly how Willis was able to perform in a shocking eight films throughout 2021, despite the ongoing COVID-19 production shut-downs that prevented many films from even shooting at that time.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly reportedly skipped the premiere of the film, at first citing concerns regarding Los Angeles’ stringent COVID policies, though MGK would later go on to state that they skipped the premiere because they did not care for the film’s overall quality.

Midnight In The Switchgrass had more of an impact on social media than the box office, as Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly met on set, eventually kicking off a tumultuous relationship perfect for the tabloids.

The only performer to star in Midnight In The Switchgrass who seems to stand by the film is Emile Hirsch, who stated in an Instagram post that he believed both Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly did a terrific job in the movie. Though the movie clearly didn’t make any massive cultural waves, it could still serve as an effective way to kill an hour and a half if you desperately need some easy entertainment.

Despite the negative press, the bad reviews, and the poor financial returns the movie produced, Midnight In The Switchgrass is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video if you’re interested in checking it out for yourself.
