Kiernan Shipka in Totally Killer

While she may have made a name for herself in Mad Men, Kiernan Shipka has since strayed from dramas, becoming a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre. Since starring in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – a role that would see her character crossover into Riverdale – Shipka has become a fan-favorite household name. In her latest project, the blossoming scream queen paired up with Amazon Prime Video for the horror comedy Totally Killer, which has just released a trailer.

The trailer sees Kiernan Shipka’s teenage character, Jamie, traveling back through time to stop a string of killings before they happen. If this plot has you thinking about Back to the Future, don’t worry; it’s brought up at the top of the trailer when Jamie attempts to get help from two police officers. They, of course, don’t believe her, meaning that Jamie is in it alone.

The comedy horror mixes the over-the-top style of the ‘80s with a heavy side of slasher.

Essentially, the movie is based around Kiernan Shipka’s character who, despite her mother’s (Julie Bowen) warnings, decides to go out on Halloween night. Her mother is still reeling from the murders that happened 35 years earlier when several of her friends were killed by a masked man. Blowing her parents’ cautionary tale off, Jamie steps out into the night only to come face-to-face with the killer and is transported back in time to the ‘80s.

The comedy horror mixes the over-the-top style of the ‘80s with a heavy side of slasher as Jamie tries to not only save the lives of her mother’s friends but also has to find a way back to her present day. Along with Kiernan Shipka and Julie Bowen (Modern Day Family), Totally Killer also features performances from Olivia Holt (Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger), Randall Park (WandaVision), Liana Liberato (Scream VI), Charlie Gillespie (Julie and the Phantoms), and Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale).

If this plot has you thinking about Back to the Future, don’t worry, it’s brought up at the top of the trailer when Jamie attempts to get help from two police officers.

The title is the latest from Nahnatchka Khan who has previously directed the Netflix film, Always Be My Maybe. With an impressive number of credits to her name, Khan also created projects, including Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, Fresh Off the Boat, and Young Rock. Making the Kiernan Shipka-led film a definite hit, Blumhouse Television is also attached in a production capacity.

What’s Next For Kiernan Shipka?

Totally Killer is just the latest in Kiernan Shipka’s ever-growing portfolio, with several more productions already in line to come out. Keeping things in the holiday spirit, next she’ll appear opposite Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and Lucy Liu in the Christmas action feature Red One, which is set to blast onto Amazon Prime Video later this year.

After that, Kiernan Shipka teams up with director Lee Isaac Chung on his spin-off of the 1996 feature Twister. Titled Twisters, the feature will see the Mad Men star opposite a cast that also includes Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing), and Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts). Shipka will also join a cast including Charlie Hall (Bel-Air) and Jake Bongiovi in Jordan Weiss’ directorial debut, Sweethearts.

Prepare to travel back through time with Kiernan Shipka and the rest of the cast of Totally Killer when it slashes onto Amazon Prime Video on October 6.
