Last October, James Gunn and Peter Safran were initiated as the new co-leaders of DC’s cinematic universe, and now the pair are taking DC in a new direction. Superman: Legacy is the next project set to come out of Warner Bros. Discovery’s superhero studio, and soon after, fans can look forward to seeing a new Batman film: The Brave and the Bold. While DC has not yet cast any actors for the film, Jensen Ackles is gunning to be the new Batman, according to Deadline.

We’re still a few years away from The Brave and the Bold’s release date, as the soonest fans can expect to see the new Caped Crusader movie is sometime in 2025, but that hasn’t stopped excited fans from declaring who their ideal actor would be for the new Dark Knight. A popular choice amongst internet users has declared that Jensen Ackles would be great as the new Batman, and the Supernatural actor heartedly agrees.

Jensen Ackles recently appeared at the Jus In Bello Convention in Italy and was asked to respond to the rumor that he was in the top three actors being considered for the part of Batman in the new film. In typical Ackles fashion, the Supernatural actor joked in response, saying that obviously, he couldn’t answer even if he knew, but that he hoped he was up for the part. He went on to quip that the role would probably go to Pedro Pascal because that guy is currently killing it in Hollywood.

“I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes,” Jensen Ackles said in response to the Batman rumor. However, he assured the audience that he had no idea who was up for the part in Gunn’s Batman because nothing is happening in the movie business with the WGA currently on strike.

On stage at the convention, Jensen Ackles mused with the audience about what it would be like to play Batman, grinning despite himself as he thought about playing his “favorite superhero.” He joked that playing a superhero would be a lot of work because you have to wear the Batsuit, but then he grinned, saying, “I would love it. Sign me up.”

After imagining himself in the role, Jensen Ackles asked the fan who’d asked him about playing Batman if they had any requests for how he performed the voice “when” he gets cast. The fan responded that it’s not just Ackles’s charismatic personality and acting chops that would make him perfect for the role but that he already basically has the voice they imagine Batman having.

Jensen Ackles countered that maybe he has Bruce Wayne’s voice but that Batman’s has to be different to hide Bruce’s identity. Imitating Christain Bale’s deep, guttural voice from The Dark Knight trilogy, the Supernatural actor asked if he should do something like that, which the entire crowd overruled.

Then, Ackles practiced in a voice just slightly deeper than his own, without the “sore throat” of Bale’s impression, and the crowd went wild, indicating that the actor had found the perfect voice for the part.

While Jensen Ackles seems as though he is ready to take on the part of Batman, no actors have been cast for The Brave and the Bold yet. However, The Flash director Andy Muschietti has been confirmed to be directing the feature, and it was announced that in addition to Bruce Wayne’s Batman, the film will also showcase Bruce’s biological son, Damien Wayne, as Robin.
