X-Men fans have waited over 20 years to see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the classic comic-book-accurate yellow suit, and now that day is finally here. The official Twitter account for Deadpool 3 posted some set photos of Ryan Reynolds and Jackman in costume, and the comic-book suit looks fantastic in live-action. Now all we need is the mask.
Of course, they can’t give away the full suit from just a screenshot — we’ll probably have to wait for a trailer before we can see Hugh Jackman don the Wolverine mask.
The comic-book-accurate suit is the cherry on top of the sundae for Hugh Jackman coming back as Wolverine, considering everyone thought he would be retiring the claws after 2017’s Logan.
Even sans mask, the suit looks even better than expected, proving that those goofy “realistic” leather suits from previous X-Men movies weren’t needed. At the very least, Deadpool 3 is proving that it’s ready to give the people what they want.
The comic-book-accurate suit is the cherry on top of the sundae for Hugh Jackman coming back as Wolverine, considering everyone thought he would be retiring the claws after 2017’s Logan. Then Ryan Reynolds dropped a casual teaser revealing that Jackman would reprise the role one last time in the upcoming Deadpool 3.
While Logan would have been a perfect swansong for the character, a Deadpool movie does seem like the perfect place for Jackman to come back one last time.
Along with bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Deadpool 3 also has the distinct honor of officially incorporating Deadpool into the MCU. Since Disney acquired Fox and the rights to all the X-Men characters, the Deadpool team will now get access to essentially any X-Men or MCU character they want, which is also an enticing prospect.
It’ll be interesting to see if the MCU tries to officially introduce the X-Men before then or if Deadpool 3 will be the entry point for bringing in the mutants.
Will Deadpool 3 Come Out On Time?
The big question right now is if we’ll actually get to see Hugh Jackman pop up as Wolverine on the May 3, 2024, release date Deadpool 3 currently has listed. Since the script for the film was written before the WGA strike began, the team is able to film the movie, but no adjustments to the script can be made by writers on set.
Presumably, this also means that Ryan Reynolds won’t be able to improvise and change the script on set, which he commonly does in these movies.
With that in mind, it’s possible that Hugh Jackman’s grand MCU appearance as Wolverine may be delayed a little if Reynolds and the team decide the script needs rewrites or other adjustments during the Deadpool 3 filming process.
In any case, the film is one of the most highly anticipated upcoming MCU entries, and the first R-rated MCU film, so there is a lot of pressure to get it right.
Deadpool 3’s Cast
For now, expect to see Reynolds and Jackman on May 3, 2024, along with the rest of the cast, which includes Morena Baccarin, Matthew Macfadyen, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggums, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Emma Corrin, Stefan Kapicic, and Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra from the Ben Affleck Daredevil film.
