Henry Cavill has faced his fair share of challenges and perils while filming The Witcher Season 2 in the last year or so. He recently revealed that he suffered a leg injury on set that was so bad, he feared it would put his career as an action movie star to an end. Whatever caused that injury, it might be nothing compared to the monsters he tried to fight in the series, like the one shown in the teaser trailer tweeted by Netflix Geeked.

In the teaser trailer for the upcoming season of The Witcher, Henry Cavill, who reprises his role as Geralt of Rivia, fights a new monster called the Myriapod (or Myriapodan, as it is officially called), which takes on the appearance of a bony scorpion with the skull of a ram. However, it seems the gargantuan beast has the upper hand when Geralt, using a combination of a Quen as a magic shield and a flaming magic sword, lets down his defenses, and the Myriapod swings its scyther to his face and throws him against a rock before walking away for its next meal. You can catch the fight between medieval man and monster below.

While this will be the first time Henry Cavill faces the creature, this will actually be the Myriadpodan’s second on-screen appearance. According to CBR, the insectoid creature’s cousin, the giant centipede, showed up in the Blood and Wine expansion pack of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It was mentioned in the original short stories by author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Myriapodan made an appearance in Sapkowski’s Sword of Destiny, and it showed up during Geralt and Ciri’s first encounter in the forest of Brokilon, the elements of which have somewhat been adapted for this season. It is described as resembling the giant centipedes, and it can be found in the vicinity of the Lower Posada, if folklore is to be believed.

Aside from the Myriapodan, Henry Cavill is sharpening his sword to meet with other ferocious beasts in the new season, such as the bruxa, the leshen, and another monster new to the mash, Nivellen. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich said that The Witcher Season 2 will feature more monsters than Blood of Elves, the first novel in The Witcher series upon which the show is adapted from. According to her, “Blood of Elves lacks monsters. There’s just not very many. But we know from the games that people really like to see Geralt battling monsters, so we continued adding more monsters to Season 2.”

If you wish to know the plotline for The Witcher Season 2, Geralt (Henry Cavill) is tasked with protecting Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) from the evil forces of Nilfgaardian and must take her to the safest place he knows, Kaer Morhen, where he was trained to be a Witcher by the best teachers in the Continent. Meanwhile, Geralt’s lost love, Yennefer (Anya Charlotra) is being held captive by Nilfgaardian, and he has no idea whether she is alive or dead. Unlike women in classical fairy tales, Yennefer is not a damsel in distress — she’ll have to find out some way to free herself from the Nilfgaardian’s prison.
