Good Night World Gets Mind-Bending Anime Adaptation In Netflix Trailer

Good Night World

The first trailer for Netflix’ latest anime series Good Night World has been released, and anime fans are loving it! The upcoming series is set to be based on the popular manga of the same name, which is available to read online at mangatoto.com. Netflix has plans to release a number of new anime series in the coming months, with Good Night World expected to arrive on the streamer on October 12.

Good Night World is going from manga to anime thanks to Netflix bringing the series to life later this year.

Though Netflix has struggled in the past with adapting anime series into live-action with projects such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, the streamer has a solid reputation with adapting manga into anime works. Good Night World appears, from its first trailer, to be no exception, as manga author and illustrator Uru Okabe has been given the creative reigns to bring his story to life on the small screen. The manga, which was first released in 2015, has been compiled into five volumes, which the series is likely to adapt into five seasons if given a chance for consecutive renewal.

As the YouTube trailer displays, Good Night World is set to center on a fictional online video game called Planet. In Planet, players form teams in order to support one another in completing their goals, including battling monsters, fighting the forces of other marauding bands of guilds, and uncovering the secrets of the game’s final objective, the mysterious Black Bird.

Netflix may frequently fail with live-action anime adaptations, but animated series like Good Night World have been critical hits for the service.

Unbeknown to Good Night World‘s main characters within the gaming family, they are actually the members of a real-life family of disjointed gamers who struggle to communicate and express themselves to one another. The older brother is described as a shut-in with no social skills, the father is not respected by his kids, and the mother constantly neglects her responsibilities to her home and family in place of playing the game. Though the Akabane family does not know it, they actually make a great team when they learn to work together, as they do within Planet.

Good Night World

Good Night World has been compared, by fans, to other sci-fi works of the past few years, including Black Mirror, Ready Player One, and Alice in Borderland. Like other dystopian works of fiction, video games and immersive art offer an escape from the characters’ nightmarish reality, where human interaction has become relegated to little more than a footnote in the human experience.

Good Night World brings together a family in a fictional online video game where they don’t realize they’re working together.

Given that the Good Night World manga began in 2015, these projects were likely used to inspire the world created by Okabe both within the series and within the meta-textual world of Planet. Now, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which left most people across the world isolated for months at a time and only able to communicate with loved ones through technology, it seems that the subject matter is more prescient than ever.

If you’re looking forward to catching Good Night World on Netflix, it’s set to premiere on October 12 alongside a slate of upcoming anime projects. The streamer has announced an initiative to bring a number of anime series to the platform in the coming months, so be sure to continue checking for updates!
