Farscape actress Gigi Edgley would love to reprise her role as Nebari thief Chiana if the sci-fi series were ever revived. “I will be first in line,” the actress said. “I will paint myself up if I have to,” she added, referring to her character’s gray skin. “You guys know that my love for Farscape is crazy and deep and wild.”

Gigi Edgley Is Eager To Play Chiana Again

Edgley also recounted an incident with series co-producer Brian Henson, where she took her love for the series to the next level. During a panel at DragonCon, the actress jokingly threatened to tie him to a chair until he promised more Farscape. Henson playfully responded by asking her to behave. “So I want Farscape back just as much as you guys, and I believe it will happen,” she added.

Farscape Ran For 4 Seasons

Created by Rockne S. O’Bannon, Farscape aired from 1999 to 2003. The series follows the adventures of John Crichton (Ben Browder), an astronaut from Earth who becomes stranded in a distant part of the universe during an experimental space flight gone awry. He finds himself aboard a living spaceship called Moya, along with a crew of escaped prisoners and outcasts.

These include the warrior Ka D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe), Peacekeeper officer Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black), the Nebari thief Chiana (Gigi Edgley), and the flamboyant Dominar Rygel XVI (voiced by Jonathan Hardy and operated by John Eccleston, Matthew McCoy, Dave Collins, Sean Masterson, Graeme Haddon, and Tim Mieville).

Jim Henson Creations Made The Series Stand Out

The series is famous for its boundary-pushing special effects, created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which brought many alien species and characters to life. While Farscape explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the consequences of power, its dark humor and willingness to take creative risks with its storytelling make it unique.

In 1999, the series was nominated for Best TV Actress and Best Supporting Actress on Television. In 2002, it was nominated for Best TV Actress, Best Supporting TV Actor, and Best Supporting TV Actress. Farscape won three Saturn Awards for Best Syndicated/Cable TV Series and one for Best TV Actor for Ben Browder between 2000 and 2002.

Chiana’s Ending

The show ran for four seasons and concluded with a miniseries called Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which provides closure to many of the series’ plotlines. However, the story had a bittersweet ending for Chiana. She finally found the courage to leave Moya, hoping to start a new life without constant fear of being captured and forcibly altered by the Nebari authorities.

But in her newfound freedom, Chiana was heartbroken about the death of Ka D’Argo, a fellow crew member with whom she shared a romantic relationship. Despite her grief, Chiana honored D’Argo’s memory by delivering his sword to his son, who was still alive. As she contemplated her future, she considered visiting Rygel XVI’s home planet and possibly settling there.

Will We Ever Get More Farscape?

Ben Browder, who starred alongside Gigi Edgley in Farscape previously said that if the sci-fi series were to continue, it could explore how the characters’ lives evolved over 25 years. It would be intriguing to discover Chiana’s whereabouts after all that time. Perhaps she’s assisting Rygel in reclaiming the Hynerian Empire’s throne, assuming he still wants it.

Alternatively, Chiana might continue opposing the corrupt Nebari authorities or travel across the cosmos, engaging in thefts and cons as a skilled mastermind. Ultimately, her path could lead to something entirely unexpected, as the character remained uncertain about her next steps as the Farscape miniseries came to a close.
