Eiza Gonzalez Baby Driver

Just two days ago Giant Freakin Robot first reported on the high probability that actress Eiza Gonzalez, most notably known for her work on 2019’s Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw and this year’s Godzilla vs. Kong, was in talks with Netflix executives to star in a new hard science fiction show, The Three-Body Problem. The new series is being developed by the co-creator duo of the Game of Thrones TV show, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who are adapting it from a novel of the same name from author Liu Cixin. Our reports were spot on and Deadline is now confirming that Eiza Gonzalez is definitively in negotiations to hop on board the project.

Netflix is still staying silent in regards to Eiza Gonzalez’s likely involvement in the upcoming series, but the fact that the project is moving forward is a good sign for Benioff and Weiss who haven’t been involved in anything major since the wave of controversy and disappointment that came out of the conclusion of the Game of Thrones series. Alexander Woo, who worked on AMC’s The Terror: Infamy, is also confirmed to be a writer alongside the duo for the new show.

Additionally, if the negotiations result in Eiza Gonzalez joining the cast of the new series, there is still a lot of speculation regarding what role she would play. The Three-Body Problem novel was written by Liu Cixin, a Chinese author. The book trilogy was initially released in China and was then later translated into English by Ken Liu, who according to Gadgets 360 will serve as one of the consulting producers. The book is largely made up of Chinese characters and Eiza Gonzalez is of Mexican descent. However, Giant Freakin Robot speculated that since the trilogy does take place over multiple centuries and in multiple different places outside of China and thus there could easily be a role well-suited to Eiza Gonzalez. The book, which is set during an alternate version of the Chinese Revolution, also features a variety of alien races and it would make sense that adapting extra-terrestrial ethnicities from a textual context to a visual context would call for a very diverse cast. However, this is all still just speculation as the project is still in its very early stages of development and nothing conclusive has been revealed.

Eiza Gonzalez is clearly an up-and-coming actress who has been making serious strides in expanding her growing resume and Even though Eiza Gonzalez’s role is still up in the air, the actress has been busy working on other projects. In fact, it has been rumored that she just might join the DC Expanded Universe as Hawkgirl in the upcoming Shazam! sequel, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods. Fans of the classic movie RoboCop might also be excited to know that Eiza Gonzalez could possibly be starring in the much-anticipated sequel, RoboCop Returns. For now, though, however, nothing has been definitively confirmed so it seems as though fans will have to wait a little longer to see just wait Eiza Gonzalez will be cast in.
