Alec Baldwin surely has a lot to reflect on as he rings in the New Year. As a celebrity that’s no stranger to controversy, 2021 found Alec Balwin once again in a difficult situation surrounding the tragic death onset of his film, Rust. Now, as the 63-year-old enters into a new year, he is taking the opportunity to reflect, move forward, and find peace amid the ongoing investigation surrounding cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s death.

See his message below.

Almost two months after the fatal shooting, Alec Baldwin took to Instagram to share a lengthy video with his 2.4 million followers. The 13-minute long video was posted on New Year’s Day. Baldwin spoke directly to the camera as he shared his hopes for the coming year amid the ongoing investigation following the Rust shooting. He captioned his heartfelt entry saying, “Another chance to let go of anything that is hurting us. Destroying us.”

The 30 Rock alumni also divulged his appreciation for the outpouring amount of support he has received since the tragic incident on the set of his low-budget Western that was being filmed in New Mexico. “I’ve had more people who have been kind and thoughtful and generous of spirit than I’ve had people who are malignant about the death of Halyna Hutchins,” Alec Baldwin said. “I’m not afraid to say that and to couch that in some euphemisms — somebody died very tragically. And I’ve gotten so much, I mean so much, goodwill from people. It’s just incredible.”

While expressing his gratitude for everyone that has stood by his side, he also weighed in on some important life and mind changes Alec Baldwin looks forward to embracing the start of a fresh new year. Exclaiming that his main focus going into 2022 is to not let the negativity from the Rust incident affect his personal life, he admitted to taking the time to speak with people he claims that deal in behavior, philosophy, religion, spirit, and meditation. It seems the Boss Baby actor is making legitimate attempts towards a healthier and happier mindset.

Although Alec Baldwin admitted that he’s not much of a New Years’ resolution setter, he did make note of his goals for the coming year. “My goal in the new year is peace, awareness, consciousness, deepening my relationships with the people that I love, pulling them closer to me, and improving relationships with people I care about but maybe I don’t get to see much of them anymore.” He also added that he recently took a trip to the West Coast to spend time with his 26-year-old daughter, Ireland, whom he shares with his ex, Kim Basinger.

Continuing his efforts to reconnect with his family, Alec Baldwin was also recently spotted spending quality family time with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their six children as they vacationed in the Hamptons. Similarly, Alec Baldwin’s wife seems to be backing her husband completely with his newfound goals. Yesterday, Hilaria posted a lengthy plea for more kindness in her own New Year’s Day post to her Instagram account.

While the incident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins happened last October, the investigation is still ongoing. When the news initially broke, reports stated that cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot and director Joel Souza was injured on the set of the film Rust when a revolver used as a prop discharged a live round while being used by Alec Baldwin. The weapon had reportedly not been thoroughly checked for safety in advance. Alec Baldwin has since been cooperative with the New Mexico police and doubles down that the incident was a complete accident. But to further complicate things, reports came out in November claiming the armorer’s attorney stated the fatal bullet might have been the result of sabotage. Most recently, investigators issued a search warrant for Baldwin’s phone.

As local authorities in New Mexico continue the investigation the production of the film remains halted for now. With Alec Baldwin himself unsure of whether the project will ever be completed, there’s a good chance the world will never get the chance to see the film almost everyone knows the name of.  Rust was the only confirmed project under the famous actor’s belt, and it’s likely we won’t see the Beetlejuice actor jump back onto the big screen anytime soon.
