More drama seems to be unfolding in the tragic shooting that occurred on the set of Rust back in October. The projectile that was allegedly fired from the gun that Alec Baldwin was holding killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. Baldwin recently sat down with ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos to give more details on what happened in this tragic accident. According to the interview, Baldwin believes that “highly unlikely that I would be charged with anything criminally.”

Though it should be mentioned that even though it is still some possibility that Alec Baldwin is not charged with outright wrongful death, there could still be some sort of repercussions given to Baldwin and the production company responsible for the film, Rust Movie Productions LLC. That much remains to be seen at this point with the investigation still underway.

The newest interview with Alec Baldwin had the actor being as candid as possible since the shooting occurred on October 21st. He says and has been stating for months that he thought the gun was a “cold gun” meaning that there was no way that the gun could have fired as it had not been loaded. During the interview with Stephanopoulos, Baldwin said several times to Hutchins, “Can you see that?” He reiterates that he asked several times about the safety of the gun and if she could see that he was pulling the hammer down on the gun and ready to fire.

In the interview (via Deadline), the gun had allegedly been loaded with some sort of projectile and Alec Baldwin had been aiming right under the armpit of Hutchins. According to reports, Hutchins had been walking him through shot angles they were going to use for the upcoming scene and Baldwin was getting in place to do a test run of firing the gun. After asking several times if she could see him pull down the hammer of the gun, he fired. A projectile was launched from the gun and killed Hutchins while also injuring the director. Baldwin claims that he had no idea what had just happened and everyone on set began to panic.

Alec Baldwin claims his innocence over and over in the interview, claiming that actors are handed guns by the prop master that are either loaded with cosmetic rounds, blanks, or empty. He hadn’t even realized that Hutchins was injured or dead until around 45 mins later. He had thought that she was struck by wadding from the blank rounds that sometimes discharge. Baldwin claims that if any actor messes with the clip of the gun or the chamber, the prop master immediately takes the gun back and corrects the mistake.

According to Alec Baldwin when he was outright asked if he would ever fire a gun at anyone he said, “No, no, no, no, no. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger. Never.” Even Alec Baldwin’s brother, Daniel Baldwin, placed blame on the surrounding officials that handed Alec the gun. He claims that they are all “dumb actors” and are told to act and shouldn’t be in charge of checking guns for any sort of safety malfunction or its preparedness to fire. Again, this is still a developing situation and we will have more information on it as it is released.
