Salma Hayek channeled classic Hollywood glam when she attended the 2023 Time 100 Gala. The Puss in Boots: The Last Wish alum shared her outfit for the New York City event on Instagram, earning thousands of compliments from adoring fans. The actress looked stunning in a form-fitting blue Gucci dress with a black lace overlay and silver sequins.
The outfit featured unique leather details with a matching jacket and a black chiffon train. Salma Hayek accessorized her dress with silver drop earrings and matching diamond rings. She wore minimal makeup, which complimented her hair which was styled with a simple middle part. Her look was completed with a crystal-style clutch.
Salma Hayek, who was interviewed for the magazine by Penelope Cruz, was honored for her advocacy work. This includes supporting migrant causes and campaigning against gender-based violence. The 56 year old, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in 2002’s Fida, was praised for her strength and intelligence and for paving the way for other Latin Americans in Hollywood.
Her most notable advocacy work includes testifying before the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary supporting reauthorizing the “Violence Against Women Act” in 2005. A year later, Salma Hayek donated $25,000 to a shelter for battered women in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. She gave an additional $50,000 to Monterrey-based anti-domestic violence groups, USA Today previously reported.
Salma Hayek is also a board member of the V-Day charity founded by playwright Eve Ensler. She also strengthened her previously causal stance on feminism in 2015, saying, “I am a feminist because a lot of amazing women have made me who I am today. But… it should not be just because I am a woman,” via The Guardian.
The Time 100 Gala is an annual event that celebrates the world’s most influential people. It is an extension of the magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” list and honors new trailblazers and cultural trendsetters each year. During the event, Salma Hayek was spotted with Austin Butler, Michael B. Jordan, and Kim Kardashian.
When she’s not advocating for human rights, Salma Hayek can be found working on her next big movie. She most recently starred opposite Channing Tatum in Magic Mike’s Last Dance. Directed by Steven Soderbergh from a script by Reid Carolin, the story follows Mike, who falls in love with a socialite who encourages him to launch a stripper stage show in London.
Magic Mike’s Last Dance was released in February. Along with Salma Hayek and Channing Tatum, the movie stars Ayub Khan Din, Jemelia George, Caitlin Gerard, Christopher Bencomo, Juliette Motamed, Vicki Pepperdine, Gavin Spokes, and Nas Ganev. The movie earned $56 million at the global box office and received a lukewarm reception from critics.
Interestingly, Salma Hayek only joined the Magic Mike franchise after Thandiwe Newton exited the role. She seems to have made the right call as she gushed about her time working with her costar Tatum and director Steven Soderbergh. Her next project will be an untitled Seesaw Monster film adaptation.
