How It Started

Fresh out of high school and pursuing a college degree, Erika Hanson found herself in an unlikely career. She started working at M&T Bank as a teller but quickly climbed the corporate ladder after multiple promotions.

Working part-time and attaining her business degree, Erika learned the ins and outs of the financial industry. She mastered budgeting, crunching numbers and eventually managing her own team all while juggling being a mom.

When daughter number two came along, Erika paused her career and began her most challenging job to date: full-time motherhood. After a year of testing her patience and chasing around little tots, she grew restless. She decided it was time to make a massive change and pursue her lifelong dream of making a career out of writing.

It began with a personal blog and quickly landed a freelance writing gig for Popdust and its affiliates. There Erika expertly reported on a slew of topics ranging from entertainment, parenting, product review, and finance.

In 2021, Erika joined GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT as a Contributing Writer. Excelling, Erika moved up the ranks from Contributor to Staff Writer and swiftly moved through editor positions to her current role as Managing Editor.
