Gal Gadot might just be one of the busiest actresses in Hollywood at the time. The Israeli actress has Death on the Nile coming out in less than a month, along with three upcoming films currently in the post-production phase. And as the Wonder Woman star prepares for what’s sure to be a busy 2022, news just broke that the 36-year-old actress just signed on to lead an upcoming thriller reboot from the master of suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcock.

Deadline first reported the breaking news. Gal Gadot is set to star in the classic thriller remake of To Catch a Thief from Alfred Hitchcock. Eileen Jones, famous for her writing and production of the crime drama, Prodigal Son, is tasked to write the remake. Along with her casting in the film, Gadot is set to produce with her business partner and husband, Jaron Varsano via their production company, Pilot Wave. Previously, Gadot lent her skills in co-producing and starring in Wonder Women 1984. Gadot’s team will also be joined by Neal Moritz, the mastermind behind the Fast and Furious franchise in producing the film. Paramount Pictures is returning to release the film as they did the original back in 1955.

Long before Gal Gadot was even a thought, Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief had its theatrical debut in 1955. Coined a romantic thriller, the film starred Hollywood legends, Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. The story followed Grant’s character, a retired cat burglar who has to save his reformed reputation by catching an imposter setting him up for a stint of robberies. To clear his name, he does some snooping of his own, while simultaneously fraternizing with the daughter of a wealthy widow all along the beautiful French Riviera.

The original film drew in mixed reviews across the board. Being compared to Alred Hitchcock’s earlier work, To Catch a Thief produced a movie with great casting, acting, and imagery, however, the horror and suspense that drew in crowds to his films was heavily missed this time around. Perhaps Gal Gadot and her team have chosen this movie for a reboot because it’s less iconic than many other Hitchcock films, like Birds, while still being from a legendary director.

There were mixed reviews from critics, with some enjoying Grant and Kelly in the lead roles as well as the French Riviera setting, while others expressed disappointment at the lack of suspense compared to earlier Hitchcock projects. With the upcoming reboot, it will be interesting to see how they handle the story, and our thoughts go to how they will reimagine the classic to fit into today’s world. Will Gal Gadot fill the shoes once worn by Grace Kelly and play the role of the damsel in distress? Or will she herself in fact be the ex-burglar caught in the mess of things?

With the Hitchcock reboot just being announced, details including the plot surrounding the film are still under wraps. With no set date to start production, it’s likely filming won’t begin until after Gal Gadot finishes with her other movies slated for an upcoming production date early this year. Gadot is set to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action Snow White, as well as Cleopatra in an upcoming titular film.
