When Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally hit HBO Max last year, fans were treated to an extended version of the original cut that helped flesh out some storylines and lend a little (lot) more clarity to parts of the story. It was a much-needed update from the first go of it. But one character noticeably absent from the proceedings was Green Lantern despite being an original member of the group in the comic books. The original plan was to have the character in the movie with Wayne T. Carr in the role, but that was eventually nixed by the studio.

Well, the actor took to Twitter this week to give an update on what the character could have looked like in the film had it actually come to fruition. After all, this was the one-year anniversary of Zack Snyder’s Justice League actually hitting the streamer, so what better time to remind fans what could have been in the film? Though Green Lantern didn’t appear in this film, there are still plans for the character moving forward in the DC Extended Universe. Check out what Wayne T. Carr posted (via ComicBook.com) on Twitter:

What a bummer. Again, while we got flashes of the Lantern Corps in the movie, mostly during flashback scenes describing some plot details in the film, the actual Green Lantern character was left out of the proceedings. The original plan was to have Wayne T. Carr in the role as Jon Stewart, but the studio got into the discussion and didn’t want that to happen. Part of the reasoning here was because of Warner Bros.’s plan to develop Green Lantern as a separate project and likely didn’t want to make decisions about the character this early on. Ultimately, Wayne T. Carr as Stewart/ Green Lantern would have been in the scene when Harry Lennix as Martian Manhunter goes to talk to Bruce Wayne at the end of the film. At first, the scene was shot with both Carr and Lennix. But Snyder cut it to only include the latter.

For the time being, the plan coming from Warner Bros. was to develop a Green Lantern Corps movie in the coming years. This was supposedly going to include both Hal Jordan and John Stewart among other members of the titular group. But then that pivoted to a series on the streamer. While this will still have Stewart as the main character, it doesn’t look like it will be Wayne T. Carr in the role. The speculation is that he was a Snyder favorite for the part but the studio will go in a different direction for John Stewart. It will be interesting to see where they take it and if the series is able to hit a timeline in the next couple of years.

In the end, the Green Lantern exclusion from Zack Snyder’s Justice League was unfortunate considering with a little bit more planning the studio could have just teased the upcoming series and also had the whole group together. But this isn’t Marvel we are talking about and DC might have just dropped the ball a bit.
