Chewbacca Poses For Instagram, Plus Some Awesome Stormtrooper Helmet Art

fb share tweet share

ChewieForget the selfie; make room for the Wookiee. In celebration of yesterday’s Star Wars Day — May the Fourth — Chewbacca emerged from his long retirement just in time to give the camera a look at his best side (the furry one). The picture above, of Chewie posing with Disney chairman/CEO Bob Iger, was posted to the official Star Wars Instagram Sunday, accompanied by a caption reading, “Chairman’s new co-pilot. #StarWarsDay.”

Chewie’s looking great for having been out of action for 30 years. (I hear the secret is getting the right conditioner.) The big question is, who that is in the suit? We were really pleased to learn that Peter Mayhew would be returning to the role as everyone’s favorite walking carpet, but there’s no way to tell who that is under all the fur. Maybe this is Mayhew back in the suit for the first time in decades, or maybe it’s an intern standing on a stepladder. Either way, it’s another little moment that helps hammer home the fact that it’s not a dream, there really are more Star Wars movies on the horizon.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Teases Next Trailer On Instagram

You might not believe it based on the news cycle this week, but there are actually things happening that don’t involve Star Wars, Godzilla, or Syfy announcing more new series than they have run collectively during the entire existence of the network. As if to emphasize that point, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has taken to Instagram to remind us that 1) there are damn dirty apes in our not-too-distant future, and 2) they look really pissed off. Check out all those hairy eyeballs up top.

Back To The Future Gets An Instagram And An Amazing Acoustic Theme

back to the future instagramYou know what was great about the teenagers in the 1980s? They didn’t have a billion methods of engaging socially with the world at large. As such, teen movies from the 1980s are nowhere near as ironically self-aware and communication is done by people using their mouths and ears. (I guess people wrote letters, too.) Well, the occasionally aggravating geniuses over at BuzzFeed decided to add some new-millennium flair to one of the most classic films of all time — of all time! — by giving Back to the Future‘s Marty McFly an Instagram account. That’s worth about 1.21 gag-awatts, right? Luckily, someone performed an incredible acoustic guitar version of the theme that balances things out.

Darth Vader Takes A Selfie For Star Wars’ New Instagram Account

The Star Wars of the George Lucas era wasn’t always in tune with how to properly reflect pop culture back at its audience, nor with what people think is funny. There isn’t so simple an explanation for Jar Jar Binks, but we’re putting him completely behind us as the Disney/J.J. Abrams partnership takes hold. And what better way to catch the eyes of fans old and new than with one of the most popular socia media sites on the Internet: Instagram. The newly created official account currently only has five pictures on it so far, but they properly represent almost anything the Star Wars culture would expect from an exclusively photographic trip around a galaxy far, far away: Darth Vader selfies, sexy girls, toys, and behind-the-scenes photos. Those four things make up the Internet for some of us, er, them…you. Whatever.
