With the worldwide success of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, the giant monster movie genre is back in Hollywood. The Kaiju sub-genre is fully realized in America with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot. While Toho Studios will be distributing the new monster movie in Japan, Warner Bros will bring Godzilla back to the big screen in the United States. Yesterday, Warner Bros released new viral videos and now the movie studio released the reboot’s new trailer, along with more viral videos, images from the film, and an official plot synopsis.

Starting off with a massive skydiving scene, the Godzilla teaser trailer jumps into the action quickly. We get the point-of-view of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character Lieutenant Ford, as he falls into a darkened city full of smoke. The trailer features a lot of the action and story beats from the film and ends with a looks at Godzilla roaring. With a great cast and a good director, Godzilla is shaping up to be a must-see movie for summer 2014.

New viral videos surfaced that points to the scale and wrath of Godzilla. You can audibly hear David Strathairn’s voice through the scrambled video that features Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, and an explosion at an airport.

Warner Bros released new images for the reboot film too that features a smoky image of the Godzilla monster. The image slightly hints to Godzilla’s appearance in the new film. Godzilla looks classic, yet updated. The monster looks much better than what was featured in Roland Emmerich’s 1998 monster movie.

The teaser trailer for Godzilla will be attached to this weekend’s release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which opens on December 13th. Godzilla’s teaser is just one of many new teasers for upcoming science fiction genre movies such as Interstellar, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Edge of Tomorrow (formerly known as All You Need Is Kill). It’s going to be a fun weekend!

The screenplay for Godzilla has seen its fair share of rewrites from screenwriters the likes of Max Borenstein, Drew Pearce, David S. Goyer, and David Callaham. Former-Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont, who revised the final version of the script, also called the film a “force of nature.” British filmmaker Gareth Edwards directed the new Godzilla movie, as it will be his follow up to his directorial debut Monsters, released in 2010.

The Godzilla reboot features a world-class cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, and Sally Hawkins, with Akira Takarada putting in a special cameo appearance.
