Next the show gave us one of the most popular Doctors of all, and the one who became “the first Doctor” for many new fans. I’m talking about David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, and the pick for his American equivalent earns back some of the points I just detracted for the whole Nic Cage thing. Sam Rockwell is a brilliant actor with crazy range, but he’s also naturally charming and a good looker too, meaning he could take up the mantle of the “sexy Doctor” that had Tennant plastered all over the Trapper Keepers of teenage girl fans. (The Trapper Keeper reference isn’t anachronistic because time travel.) Rockwell has been brilliant for ages now in movies such as Confessions of a Dangeous Mind, The Green Mile, and Moon — dude can pretty much pull off anything you throw at him, and he’s definitely in my top three picks off this list.
