Mandalorian X-Wings

The Mandalorian season 2 episode 2 is titled “Hard-Boiled” and it features a lot of new additions to the Star Wars universe, like giant angry ice-spiders. But the most interesting thing about the episode was the closer look it gave us at some old things: Specifically, X-Wings.

“Hard-Boiled” prominently featured classic, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi era X-Wings. The type of X-Wing that Wedge Antilles used to take down the second Death Star. Basically the same type of X-Wing that Luke flew to blow up the first Death Star and eventually sunk in a swamp on Dagobah. It’s the Incom T-65 X-Wing, and The Mandalorian gave us two of them.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen T-65 X-Wings on The Mandalorian, they had a brief cameo in season 1. This, however, was the closest look we’ve gotten at them. Our best look at one of the most iconic ships in all of science fiction since Return of the Jedi way back in 1983. And it’s good to have it back.

Here’s a gallery of beauty shots from The Mandalorian’s “Hard-Boiled” episode, featuring the X-Wings. With modern day FX artists to help create them, they’ve never looked better.

These iconic ships are what Star Wars fans have been waiting to see more of since 1983 and yet, somehow, the people in charge of Star Wars have refused to give them to us. For comparison here’s how the T-65 looked way back in Star Wars: A New Hope

The Force Awakens trilogy came close, with a revamped version of the classic X-Wing craft that looked like this…

But it’s not the same and it’s an inferior and unnecessary reboot of a ship that was already absolutely perfect. The X-Wing is back and it’s never looked better, thanks entirely to The Mandalorian.
