Wednesday Star Joining Blumhouse’s New Thriller

Riki Lindhome, the well-meaning therapist Dr. Valerie Kinbott in Wednesday and part of a popular comedy duo, has signed to star in Blumehouse's They Listen.

Riki Lindhome, who portrayed Dr. Valerie Kinbott in the hit Netflix series Wednesday, has joined the cast of the latest Blumhouse funded horror thriller, They Listen. According to a write-up in The Hollywood Reporter, Lindhome is joining a stacked cast that also includes Cowboy Bebop‘s Jon Cho, as well as Katherine Waterston, Lukita Maxwell, and Greg Hill. Plot and character details are currently being kept tightly under wraps, but the casting is already raising eyebrows.

After humorously portraying a ‘normie’ foil to Jenna Ortega‘s highly unusual Wednesday Addams, Riki Lindhome will certainly feel right at home on the horror thriller set. Throughout the eight episodes of Wednesday’s first season, Dr. Kinbott serves as a kind and understanding therapist assigned to help Wednesday and other Nevermore Academy students through their trauma. Of course, Wednesday Addams is a tough nut to crack, and the two find themselves butting heads in nearly every interaction.

The upcoming Blumhouse film will serve as Riki Lindhome’s 100th credited role, as the star has had bit parts in numerous television shows and movies dating back to the turn of the century, including The Big Bang Theory, Animaniacs, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, as well as starring roles in films such as Knives Out, Hell Baby, and The Lego Batman Movie. Lindhome’s appearance in each episode of Wednesday has surely made her a household name, though many film and television fans have probably known her by previous roles for years.

Besides appearing in dozens of shows, Riki Lindhome has also served as the co-creator and showrunner of Comedy Central’s Another Period, as well as being one half of the comedy music duo Garfunkel and Oates alongside former Velma Dinkley voice Kate Micucci. Having spent most of her career in the comedy sphere, Lindhome is surely excited to flex her dramatic acting through her appearance in a Blumhouse thriller.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse is set to produce the film alongside Little Fockers producers Weitz and Andrew Miano of Depth of Field. They Listen is being written and directed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Chris Weitz, with an expected release in August 2023. While there is currently no public information regarding Riki Lindhome’s character, fans of her previous work will surely be tuning in to see the comedic performer take her career to the next level.

Having just become a mom in 2022, Riki Lindhome has been keeping busy with her fair share of industry work while raising her son. In addition to her upcoming Blumhouse picture, Lindhome is set to write the screenplay for an upcoming animated musical film called Steps, which she will appear in alongside her long-time collaborator Kate Micucci. The duo are expected to perform voice work for the main characters as well as original songs in the film, which Netflix has picked up for distribution.

Fans will surely have their fingers on the pulse awaiting further information regarding They Listen and Riki Lindhome’s role in the project. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what Blumhouse has in store for us.
