You would be hard-pressed to find someone with a more successful career than Kevin Costner, and the man recently shared what his father said to him as his career was blossoming.
There are few people who have had more of an impactful career than Kevin Costner. The man is one of the best actors in the world, he is an award-winning director and a successful musician. To say the man is talented would be putting it lightly. Costner recently shared an anecdote about his journey to where he is now and how his father had reacted to his life choices. He recalls his father not exactly approving of him becoming an actor, and that fathers are always meant to want the best for their children. You can see the full video below:
One of the most charming aspects of Kevin Costner telling this story about his father is that you can see how proud he is to have had a father like that. Even though he went to college and essentially dropped out to pursue acting, his father was reluctant in accepting that fact but still supported him. Acting clearly worked out for the man. The same could be said for directing. Costner made the joke that his father did not approve of his move to directing, but as we all know, that also worked out. In fact, Costner’s first directed feature was Dances with Wolves. The film would go on to win a staggering 7 Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture. The end of the above video is where everyone laughed and likely got misty-eyed, as Costner revealed he went into music but never told his father about it. He was clearly making a joke, but it sounds like Costner and his father had a great relationship with one another.
Kevin Costner is set to direct his fourth feature film, which is a highly anticipated Western, Horizon. There is plenty of buzz around the film, and it might be his return to winning another Academy Award for directing. Costner is also set to reprise his role as John Dutton in Yellowstone Season 5, which will premiere on November 13, 2022. The series is arguably the biggest on television currently, and people have been clamoring to see the Dutton family return to the small screen. Interestingly, Costner also wrote country music from the perspective of John Dutton, which was featured on Yellowstone Season 3. Kevin Costner seems like he is a great person, and that could have been because of his presumed relationship with his father. Although his father was plenty skeptical about his career choices, he also let the man choose for himself. We all make mistakes in life, and the point of perspective and experience is to sometimes fail and learn from those mistakes. Costner might not have been an immediate success, but everyone knows that his career has turned into one that his father was likely very proud of. We are proud of the man too.
