We haven’t been looking forward to an episode of The Simpsons this much in what feels like forever. Though the show is still capable of greatness in spurts, it hasn’t been consistently good in a long, long time. We have high hopes, however, for the upcoming crossover with creator Matt Groening’s other beloved animated series, Futurama. There have been a few peeks at this episode, which finally airs this weekend, but now we’ve got some more stills to check out, as well as the opening couch gag.
Tagged as Simpsorama and bearing the logline “A show out of ideas teams up with a show out of episodes,” this looks like a pretty damn good time to us. Hedonistically so, as Futurama regular Hedonismbot, voiced by Maurice LaMarche pops up in this video and shows Homer how to really live. If only all furniture was robotic, sexually insatiable, and willing to massage your butt while feeding you grapes.
We’re way more excited about this crossover than the meeting of The Simpsons and Family Guy earlier in the season, but how can you not be pumped at the prospect of Leela, Fry, Bender, and the rest of the Planet Express crew hanging out in Springfield?
The plot of the episode revolves around a Terminator style time travelling adventure. When Bart blows his nose on a sandwich that goes into a time capsule, it mixes with radioactive goo and Milhouse’s lucky rabbit’s foot, and in the future this concoction causes a massive disaster. Bender jumps back in time somehow in order to kill the eldest Simpson child and prevent this catastrophe from ever happening. Something tells me it’s not going to go quite as smoothly as all that. I don’t know how it goes down, but I look forward to finding out.
And back to the couch gag talk, here’s another one from earlier in the season by Academy Award-nominated animator, and general weirdo, Don Hertzfeldt from the season 26 premiere, “Clown in the Dumps.” It’s…lets just call it bizarre and warn you that it may do strange things to your brain as it hurls everyone’s favorite yellow, four-fingered family 10,000 years into the future.
Seeing Homer with his arms around Leela, Fry, and Bender is enough to make anyone smile.
You don’t exactly know why Homer and Bender are using Bart as a piñata, but give the boy’s track record, it’s not so far out of the realm of possibility.
A hologram of Fry coming out of Bender’s ass seems like a nod to Star Wars…
…and things might get started off on the wrong foot between the alcoholic robot and the Simpson patriarch, but the two have so much in common it’s easy to picture them becoming fast friends.
Simpsorama airs this Sunday, November 9, at 8:00pm on Fox.
