Sasha Calle has been busy filming her role as Supergirl for The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller. This will be the first time we see Calle in the role. After that, she’s expected to be a new player for DC, hopefully with a solo Supergirl movie. Now, according to a new rumor that Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman shared with his Patreon page, we can expect that at some point it will be established that Supergirl is bisexual. Daniel Richtman says this is a decision from Warner Bros. This builds on a previous claim from Richtman. A month ago, he said that he’d heard something similar about her character being LGBTQ.

Richtman didn’t share any details on what project Warner Bros may establish Supergirl’s bisexuality in. He also didn’t share how it is that the movies will handle establishing this, storywise. For example, will this be something that Sasha Calle’s character already knows about herself? Will it be something she discovers for herself on screen? Will it be something she simply states at some point, saying “I am bisexual”, or will it be something that gets shown through her dating multiple characters or mentioning some of her past relationships? At this point, we still don’t have many established bisexual characters on screen, though that list is always growing. There are a lot of different ways to go about handling this. If this rumor proves true and the writers for Supergirl work to make this happen, hopefully, they’ll find a positive way to do so.

If Richtman’s rumor proves true, and the studio wants to establish that Sasha Calle’s Supergirl is bisexual, it won’t be the first time a DC character has been established as bisexual–at least, not for fans of the comics. In the comics, Wonder Woman is bisexual. Catwoman is also bisexual. In DC comics, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are bisexual. Harley Quinn stands out, because she has a famous romantic relationship with Joker and with Poison Ivy.

While bisexual characters won’t be new for DC comics, these characters have also been seen on screen without coming out and saying they’re bisexual. Having better representation by establishing that Supergirl is bisexual on the screen will be a big step forward in representation for the DC Cinematic Universe. We’ll have to see if they actually take this step with Sasha Calle’s character.

Not a lot is known yet about Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, but we’re learning a little more all the time. First, we got a peek behind the scenes, where she showed off her new short haircut. It wasn’t yet clear at the time if that would be Supergirl’s hair or if the actress cut it short to wear under a wig. Now, we know that she’s been seen on set, in costume, and rocking her short hair. That also means that, yes, we’ve gotten a look at her costume. First, a peek was shared of the S on her chest. Then, we got a more complete look taken by people behind the scenes. See Sasha Calle in costume below.

Then, of course, the fanartists really stepped up with more accurate interpretations of what we’ll soon be seeing for Sasha Calle as Supergirl. See the take from fanartist spdrmnkyxxiii below.

Hopefully, we’ll get more official images of Sasha Calle as Supergirl soon, and more information on when and how Warner Bros may establish these parts of her identity on screen.
