Ryan Reynolds If Trailer From John Krasinski Brings Imaginary Friends To Life

By Douglas Helm | Published

The trailer for John Krasinski’s latest directorial effort, IF, just dropped, and it looks like it will be a charming and heart-warming tale. The IF trailer shows us a world where IFs, aka Imaginary Friends, start seeking help from a young girl after they have been abandoned by the people who imagined them. Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming star in the film, and the trailer gives us a glimpse of some of the imaginary friends we’ll meet, including a big purple monster voiced by Steve Carrell.

IF is written, directed, and co-produced by John Krasinski, who is making a much more kid-friendly pivot from his directorial debut A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. Along with Ryan Reynold and Cailey Fleming, Krasinski also has a role in the film alongside a star-studded cast that includes Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Bobby Moynihan, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, and Awkwafina.

Notably, this is also the first time that Carrell and Krasinski have reunited since the hit NBC series The Office ended.

The IF trailer also marks a big win from Ryan Reynolds, who looks like he’ll be having a massive year at the cinema in 2024. With Krasinski behind the wheel and a star-studded cast, IF definitely seems like it could be a commercial hit. It should pair well with Reynolds’ other big 2024 blockbuster Deadpool 3, which will inevitably be a hit thanks to the popularity of the previous Deadpool films and the presence of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds in IF

The IF trailer shows us a world where IFs, aka Imaginary Friends, start seeking help from a young girl after they have been abandoned by the people who imagined them.

Both Krasinski and Reynolds collaborated to bring IF to life, with Krasinski producing through his Sunday Night production company and Reynolds producing through his Maximum Effort banner. Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form are also on board as producers. The trailer for the film is certainly promising, so we’ll have to wait and see if it lives up to the high expectations Krasinski has set with his previous films.

Although it seems extra unlikely, maybe we could get lucky and see John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds appear in two films together in 2024. Although Deadpool 3 is Reynolds’ first foray as the character as an official part of the MCU, Krasinski has already made his MCU debut as Mr. Fantastic, aka Reed Richards.

The IF trailer also marks a big win from Ryan Reynolds, who looks like he’ll be having a massive year at the cinema in 2024.

However, Marvel has indicated that Krasinski’s version was merely a multiversal variant, and Krasinski himself has indicated that he likely won’t be playing the character again, so it seems his cameo may have been more fanservice than anything.

In any case, getting John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds together on one film is certainly better than nothing, considering both actors have been on a hot streak lately with their creative endeavors. The combination of the two of them in a creative project like IF definitely seems like a surefire win, especially since the initial teaser trailer is already making the project look pretty good. We’ll just have to wait and find out when IF hits theaters on May 17, 2024.
