Percy Jackson Series Shares First Look At Lin Manuel Miranda And Others

By Douglas Helm | Published

We are just months away from the release of the new Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series, and the official X account for the show just gave us a sneak peek at some of the cast as their characters. In the post, we see Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hermes, the late Lance Reddick’s Zeus, and plenty of other key characters that fans are undoubtedly excited to see in action. After some disappointing films, fans are ready for this TV series to deliver on the engaging story told in Rick Riordan’s novel series.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans are fille with hope for the new Disney+ series since author Rick Riordan has been involved.

Along with Zeus and Hermes, we see Toby Stevens as Poseidon, Jay Duplass as Hades, Adam Copeland as Ares, Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Glynn Turman as Chiron, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Dior Goodjohn as Clarissa La Rue, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus, Megan Mullaly as Alecto, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano, and Suzanne Cryer as Echidna. This cast will join the main trio of Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. Rick Riordan created the TV series from his novels alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg.

With Riordan on board as creator and the cast all seemingly looking perfect for their roles, Percy Jackson and the Olympians look like it might be the successful adaptation that the films never were. With eight episodes scheduled for the first season, the TV series will have time to stretch out and hit all the beats of the novel series rather than condensing everything into the length of a movie. The first season will be adapting the first novel in the series, The Lightning Thief.

Presumably, the second season would adapt the second book of the series, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.

Even Riordan seems cautiously optimistic about fan reception to the TV series, as he announced earlier this year that writing for the second season of the series had begun, though the season hadn’t been green-lit yet. Presumably, the second season would adapt the second book of the series, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. There are seven books in the series in total, with five of them specifically focusing on Jackson’s story, so there is plenty of material to adapt if the viewership numbers and critical reception for the series are good.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians will be available on Disney+ starting on December 20.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the titular 12-year-old demigod, who goes to Camp Half-Blood, a training camp for demigods, where he learns he is the son of Poseidon. He soon finds himself accused by the Greek God Zeus of stealing his thunderbolt, leading Jackson to set out to clear his name. The story also takes place in the 21st century, which is a unique setting for stories based on Greek myth.

Fans will not have to wait too much longer to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians come to their TV screens. The series is set to kick off with a two-episode premiere on December 20 and release new episodes weekly after that. Stay tuned for more news on this and other upcoming Disney+ shows.
