Kevin Spacey Running For President? See The Bizarre Video Declaration

By Chris Snellgrove | Published

The holidays are a time to embrace many traditions: singing Christmas carols, setting out milk and cookies for Santa, and checking out the latest insane video from Kevin Spacey. As he has done several years in the past (specifically, from 2018-2020), the star released a bizarre video as his gift to us all, and this one had the twist of Spacey appearing in character as Frank Underwood in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

The interview is filled with wild moments, but none of them are wilder than Spacey’s assertion that he (or at least, his House of Cards character) may try to run for president.

Like the previous holiday videos, part of what made this Kevin Spacey video so surreal is that we don’t see the veteran actor appear in many movies or TV shows since he faced multiple accusations of sexual assault. These allegations caused Netflix to fire him from House of Cards and to continue the show without him. None of this kept Spacey from appearing as his character from the show, and he ended up briefly addressing those allegations.

“We need someone in the White House who’s not afraid, like me… not afraid to push our country or a journalist in the right direction if it comes to that.”

“It is bizarre that they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone, allegations that have now been proven false,” he told Tucker Carlson. Continuing, the controversial star stated that “Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map and they tried to put me in the ground.”

Part of what made the interview with Kevin Spacey hard to follow is that he seemed to mix factual statements with outlandish claims. For example, he was acquitted of the nine different charges of sexual misconduct that were brought against him in the United Kingdom, which is presumably what the actor meant when calling out Netflix for firing him when he had not been convicted of any crimes.

But his claim that he alone put the streaming giant Netflix “on the map” is quite bold, and his corollary to that statement is the second most surprising thing in the video.

At one point, Kevin Spacey claims to have invented the “da-dum” Netflix opening sound, even though there is nothing to corroborate this. However, that declaration paled in comparison to the moment when the celeb implied that he might run for president in 2024.

This caused Tucker Carlson to mention that it might be impossible for a new contender to enter the presidential race but that if anyone could pull it off, it would be Kevin Spacey.

Part of what made this Kevin Spacey video so surreal is that we don’t see the veteran actor appear in many movies or TV shows since he faced multiple accusations of sexual assault.

As for the actor, he claims he is considering running for president because “we need to get some adults back in the room” and taking the job is “a sacrifice I’m willing to make for this great nation.” Eventually, Carlson asked Kevin Spacey the question burning in all of our minds: was this a real interview with an actor or a TV episode featuring the House of Cards character?

To this, Spacey responded by saying, “it’s probably a little of both.” He then seemed to get very philosophical, asking Carlson a series of questions about how he could tell the difference between truth and falsehood, life and art, and reality and performance. Kevin Spacey claims that “I love it when these things intersect, because then it gets interesting.”

“It is bizarre that they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone, allegations that have now been proven false. Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map and they tried to put me in the ground.”

When the smoke from this short interview cleared, we still weren’t sure whether these presidential ambitions were real and if it would be Kevin Spacey or his Frank Underwood character who might run for the highest office in the land.

One thing we are sure of is this video is insanely entertaining and you should check it out for yourself. Also, to Kevin Spacey, assuming you’re reading…if you’re going to keep bringing back old characters to make baffling videos, can you do your K-PAX character next Christmas?
