Dwayne Johnson has been a WWE wrestler, street racer, football player, an earthquake rescue worker in San Andreas, a demigod helping Moana save her island home from the brink of destruction, and more recently an FBI agent tracking down an international art thief in Red Notice. Now he can add super dog to his acting resume — and not just any super dog, but Superman’s best friend, Krypto. Warner Bros. Pictures has released a trailer for DC League of Super-Pets, showing Krypto gathering up his fellow furry friends to fly into action when their superhuman friends get in trouble.

In DC League of Super-Pets, Dwayne Johnson voices Krypto the Superdog, who shares a superpowered bond with Superman (voiced by John Krasinski of The Office). Krypto fights crime with Superman on the streets of Metropolis on a daily basis. But when the Man of Steel and the rest of the Justice League get kidnapped by Lex Luthor, Krypto rounds up a motley crew of other super animals — like Ace the Bat-Hound, Wonder Woman’s potbellied pig PB, and the Green Lantern’s squirrel Chip — to save the world and rescue their owners. You can check out the four-legged heroes in action in the trailer below.

Krypto was already born with superpowers, given that he grew up with his famous owner on his namesake planet. This allows him to save people from evil with incredible speed, flight, and strength as powerful as the Man of Steel and Dwayne Johnson himself. (Remember when he broke his arm out of a cast in Furious 7?) In the movie, the shelter pets are given superpowers that — more or less — match those of the heroes in the Justice League after a mysterious gem falls into the shelter and explodes in their midst. For example, PB the Pig is given the power to grow in size, Merton the Turtle runs as fast as the Flash, and Chip the Squirrel gets electrocution — all of which could work in their favor in the fight against Lex Luthor.

Before Dwayne Johnson was cast to voice Krypto, the superpowered canine had his own TV show on Cartoon Network simply called Krypto the Superdog. In the animated series, which ran for two seasons between 2005 and 2006, Krypto crash-lands on Earth during a test flight before Krypton got destroyed and goes on to live with a 9-year-old boy named Kevin, who formally adopts him at the behest of Superman, who found himself too busy saving the world to take care of him. From then on, he lives the double life of an ordinary house pet living with Kevin and his family and a super dog, fighting evil animals, like Lex Luthor’s pet iguana Ignatius, alongside Streaky the Supercat, Ace the Bat-Hound, and Stretch-O-Mutt. The show’s animation style is inspired by the Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the 1960s through the 1980s rather than the DC animated shows that came before it, such as Justice League and Batman the Animated Series, to line up with comedy standards.

Aside from Dwayne Johnson, the rest of the voice cast for DC League of Super-Pets is brimming with superstar power, like Kevin Hart, Diego Luna, Vanessa Bayer, Marc Maron, Ben Schwartz, and even Keanu Reeves. The film is written and directed by Jared Stern, who wrote The Lego Batman Movie. It is set to fly into theaters on May 20, 2022.
