There’s absolutely no keeping a great franchise down and, according to Variety, audiences will soon be treated to Creed 4, a franchise that is – in and of itself – a spinoff of the beloved Rocky films. Even better, Michael B. Jordan is returning to pour his vision into the boxing flick, following his successful run as both the star and his directorial debut via Creed 3. Although it hasn’t been officially revealed whether Jordan will reprise his role as Adonis Creed, it’s more than likely that the fourth film will continue to follow the fan-favorite character.

The announcement surrounding Jordan’s involvement in Creed 4 should come as no surprise to anyone who caught the last feature. While Jordan has long been a face in the cinematic world of Hollywood, having appeared in projects including the Black Panther franchise and Just Mercy, Creed 3 was his directorial debut. A very successful start to what is sure to be an illustrious filmmaking career, Creed 3 raked in a whopping $275.3 million at the worldwide box office.

Creed Producer Confirms The Film

Rumors surrounding Creed 4 have long been swirling with reports that Amazon and Jordan were in talks for another installment all the way back in the spring. Giving eager fans the news that they’d been waiting for, Irwin Winkler took to his Twitter to share the update. Serving as a producer throughout the franchise, Winkler has his finger on the pulse of all things Creed, however, he didn’t give any plot details beyond calling it “a really good story.”

Rocky’s Legacy Continued

Putting a new spin on a beloved story, the Creed franchise has followed the rise of heavyweight champion, Adonis Creed, combining difficult family dynamics with his goal of becoming the biggest name in boxing. The first two Creed films saw Sylvester Stallone back in action as Rocky Balboa, Adonis’s trainer and the old rival of Adonis’ father, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). With Sylvester Stallone choosing to not return to Creed 3 to reprise his role as Rocky, the franchise really demonstrated its staying power, paving the road for the story to continue with Creed 4.

Boasting an impressive call sheet, Creed 3 also starred Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), Jonathan Majors (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), Florian Munteanu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show), and Wood Harris (Remember the Titans). The film saw a showdown with plenty of baggage from the past as Adonis faced off against his childhood friend, Damian (Majors) who was freshly out of jail and ready to claim the title of heavyweight champion. While Majors could possibly reprise his role in Creed 4, it seems rather unlikely considering his pending court cases surrounding domestic abuse allegations.

When To Expect Creed 4

Like many other productions in Hollywood, Creed 4 has been slowed down due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes – both of which are now solved. This means that the team behind the upcoming film is hard at work putting the foundational blocks into place with Winkler commenting that he believes pre-production will begin in a year. Stay tuned for more Creed 4 updates as they roll in.
