Before Squid Game became the biggest series to ever premiere on Netflix, season one of Bridgerton held the title. During the show’s first 28 days on the streaming service, it was watched by 82 million households around the world. Naturally, this led to a quick renewal for the Shondaland production. Now, Netflix has finally announced a release date. Fans can stream Bridgerton season 2 on March 25, 2022.

The Regency-era romance series is based on the novels by Julia Quinn. Each of the individual novels follows a different sibling from the Bridgerton family and tells their love story. Similarly, each season of Bridgerton will center around a different sibling from the family. Bridgerton season 2 will focus on the love story of Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. During the first season of the hit Netflix series, Lord Anthony Bridgerton was seen struggling with his feelings for Siena Rosso. As his love interest wasn’t part of high society, their relationship was fraught with difficulties and ultimately ended in broken hearts. The season established that as the head of his family, he had a duty to marry someone who fulfilled certain expectations. Season 2 will find Anthony Bridgerton looking for a wife, but not love.

Netflix released the first look at Bridgerton season 2 in September 2021 as part of their TUDUM event. The video introduces his new love interest for the upcoming season. Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley, is new to town and entirely unimpressed by Lord Anthony Bridgerton. The video shows the pair fighting. You can see the first look below.

As revealed in the video, Lord Anthony Bridgerton was heard listing off what he’s looking for in a wife. Kate Sharma has just moved to town, overhears him, and finds his strategy for matrimony entirely insulting. While not said, it’s hinted that she is specifically looking for love. The two fight, she insults his horse-riding skills, and the stage is set for the Bridgerton season 2 love story.

In season one of the Netflix hit, Anthony Bridgerton was introduced as the oldest Bridgerton sibling, brother to Daphne (Phoebe Dyvenor) and best friend to Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page), the Duke. Season one was the love story of Daphne and Simon, who started off disliking each other, but eventually fell in love. The two main characters from season one are expected to barely be seen in Bridgerton season 2, as Regé-Jean Page has said he won’t be returning for another season. Since the first season ended with the couple moving to his estate where he is the Duke, their absence shouldn’t be too difficult to explain, but will still be a disappointment for fans.

When discussing Bridgerton season 2, Shonda Rhimes said that she hopes audiences will be just as interested in the new couple as they were in the first season. With such huge success behind season one, there’s a lot for season two to live up to. One of the ways the show is hoping to keep fans interested season to season is through the reveal of the show’s narrator, Lady Whistledown. Julie Andrews voices the town’s gossip writer, and unveiling her has been one of the show’s big mysteries. Since her identity was revealed to the audience at the end of season one (something that did not happen in the books) it will be interesting to see how the show handles Whistledown moving forward.
