The Borat 2 trailer has arrived and it’s a more specific and interesting tease than you might expect. After the presidential debate between candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden, a Twitter account calling itself Republic of Kazhakstan posted this video in support of Donald Trump:

This clever bit of marketing might not be a traditional Borat 2 trailer but it does give us an insight into the humorous angle Sacha Baron Cohen will be taking with the film. There had been a rumored title for Borat 2, but we’ve heard from official sources that title is not real. Still, it was kind of hilarious. The rumored title was Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan. We’re just gonna keep calling it Borat 2.

Clearly, the angle the Borat 2 trailer is taking is comical support of Donald Trump. It makes sense for a character like Borat to feel Donald Trump is a great leader. Borat believes in American exceptionalism and would view someone like Donald Trump as a perfect encapsulation of American ideals. Of course, the satirical angle in all of this is what makes it amusing.

Another funny element of this first Borat 2 trailer comes at the very end. There is a card showcasing a website called Kazakhs Against Foreign Meddling. This actual website looks to be a cheaply slapped together page that praises Donald Trump and is telling visitors to vote for Donald Trump. The irony here is that the site is supposedly based out of Kazakhstan and is urging support for an American president. Hence, the Kazakhs Against Foreign Meddling site is, in effect, a foreign entity attempting to meddle in an American election.

It is going to be interesting to see how this Borat 2 trailer and the eventual movie are going to be received. Amazon just picked the film up and is planning to drop it on Prime Video only a few days before the 2020 presidential election. It is a great marketing ploy from Sacha Baron Cohen to use the heated election as a way to get attention to his comedy sequel.

However, America has changed a lot since Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan released in 2006. The divide between Americans is stronger than ever, and the problems we face are so horrific and seemingly insurmountable that it is tough to find the humor in any of it. That is why we need sharp satirists like Sacha Baron Cohen to remind us that there are still reasons to keep laughing.

We don’t know when the full Borat 2 trailer will be hitting the web, but with less than a month to go before its release on Amazon Prime Video, we are betting we will see something fairly soon. Once the full Borat 2 trailer hits the internet, we will be sure to post it here.
