Brie Larson took to her Instagram to show off some behind-the-scenes photos of her rehearsing as Envy Adams for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Back before Larson became one of the most successful Marvel actors, she was in an adaptation that was led by Edgar Wright. That adaptation was based on the comic, Scott Pilgrim, and it still stands as her best role and one of the best adaptations that have ever been made.

Brie Larson played the ex-girlfriend of Scott Pilgrim, Envy, who also happens to be the lead singer of the band The Clash at Demonhead. In the band is also Todd, who is one of the exes of Ramona Flowers, a group of former lovers that Scott must defeat to truly win Ramona’s hand. The Clash at Demonhead is based on a real band named Metric, which features a lead singer named Emily Haines, who was the basis for how Envy looked in the movie.

A possibly lesser-known fact about Brie Larson is that she was once a pop singer, and she released an entire album that went mostly under the radar back in 2005. That album was called Finally Out of P.E., and to her credit, Larson has quite a beautiful singing voice. When it came to her performing in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, she recorded her own vocals over the Metric song, “Black Sheep,” which is performed in the movie by The Clash at Demonhead.

Although the song is a Metric original, Brie Larson was able to record her own vocals for it, which are featured in the movie. Per the request made by Metric, the original song was released on the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack, though it took some time to get the Larson recorded version added. Both versions of the song are available on all streaming sites for those who want to hear what both Larson and Haines sound like tackling this Metric original.

It is strange to think that Brie Larson never made it as a singer, as she has a great voice. Well, that’s not to say that she could have never made it, but we would argue that her true calling has certainly been acting, as she is now a Marvel superstar. Larson also provided her vocal prowess to the movie, Room, which features a song she sings called “Big Rock Candy Mountain.”

Anyone who happens to be enthralled by the fact that Brie Larson can sing can go check out her one album on Spotify and find her vocal version of “Black Sheep” for the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack. Her contributions to Room can also be found on YouTube, as it’s only a quick song.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World came out in 2010, and it has been nearly 13 years since we saw Brie Larson suit up as Envy Adams. The above picture is a great throwback Thursday selection for fans of Larson and Scott Pilgrim to check out. Larson also stated that she wants the boots that Envy wore in the movie, and we agree she should get them because she looks amazing in them.
