How Marvel Accidentally Stunk Up The Ant-Man Set With Poop

On the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, crewmembers thought they were using dirt, but it ended up being stinky manure instead.

Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man has always been one of our favorite members of the Avengers, who can forever be counted on to bring a bit of levity through wit, but no one was laughing on the set of the upcoming feature Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania when an oopsie daisy left things covered in manure. According to an interview conducted by Yahoo Australia news, the MCU star revealed that while attempting to make the scenes look as real as possible, production decided to cover the ground in dirt. But, some poor crew members made the massive mistake of instead blanketing it with manure, a mix-up that left a smelly and unworkable area for the rest of the cast and crew.

Paul Rudd revealed that those behind the latest Ant-Man feature attempted to make the set as “practical” as they could by blending CGI with real life. The actor says they “try and do as much of that as possible,” with those behind the scenes constructing massive buildings to set the scene and create the illusion of “a really weird plant — like a planet almost.” Upon designing one of the sets, Rudd says they decided to use real dirt to build out the floor, adding that “they got a really good deal on dirt.”

The Ant-Man star says that things were really coming together for the scene, making him and his co-stars feel like they were “for real” transported to the Quantum Realm. Around this point, things began to take a turn because, when the cameras began to roll, Rudd says the smell became “horrendous” with none of the actors or crew members being able to work.

“They didn’t realize it was actually just manure,” he said before explaining that the solution was to buy “more dirt” and put it in the manure’s place. And, while it sounds like things were smelly on the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, things are really going to stink for the titular characters and the rest of the gang after they get pulled into the Quantum Realm in the upcoming Marvel film.

In Quantumania, Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne aka Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), along with Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) take an unexpected trip they won’t soon forget — and may not survive — to the Quantum Realm. It’s there that they run into Marvel’s latest supervillain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who’s more than happy to put another Avengers kill notch on his belt.

The film will mark a major first for Ant-Man, who has never had a one-on-one clash with a major bad guy in his other solo films. From what we’ve seen, the feature will take on a more somber and dark tone like that of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the hero possibly biting off more than he can chew. Likewise, it will introduce audiences to the second variant of Kang, who first appeared in the hit MCU and Disney+ series Loki, and will prove to be much more dangerous and sinister than his more mischievous version in the streaming favorite.
