You Can Watch Star Wars Rebels A Week Before Everyone Else

If you’ve been bouncing around, doing a little anticipatory dance, waiting for the day you finally get to see brand new Star Wars, this is the news for you. Disney and Lucasfilm have scooted up the premiere of the new animated series Star Wars Rebels to tomorrow, September 26.
Originally scheduled to premiere on Disney Channel on Friday, October 3, before making its way to its forever home on Disney XD on Monday, October 13, the premiere, an hour-long special titled “Spark of Rebellion,” will be available starting tomorrow, for certain folks. As you can imagine, this isn’t for just anyone, and there are hoops to jump through, groups to join, and all of that.
You have to be a verified user of WATCHDisneyXD.com and use the WATCH Disney XD app on your smartphone or tablet. To be honest, it looks like kind of a pain in the ass to sign up, you have register through your cable provider, and I’m sure there are other hurdles to clear, but, if you’re really excited to see Star Wars Rebels, it will give you a weeklong window to see the debut in advance of everyone else. Except, you know, the other people who sign up. So it might just be worth your while to register.
Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, bridging the gap between the prequels and the original trilogy, Rebels sees the Galactic Empire tightening its grip on the galaxy, crushing the citizens under their boot. In this oppressive environment, rebellion seethes, and the first seeds of what will ultimately become the Rebel Alliance begin to sprout. On the outer rim planet of Lothal, a young con artist named Ezra Bridger, who just so happens to be strong, though untrained, in the ways of the Force, joins forces with an unlikely band of resistors. This includes so-called cowboy Jedi Kanan, keeping a low profile after Order 66 destroyed the Jedi; Hera Syndulla, the tough as nails pilot of a ship called the Ghost; Zeb, the muscle-bound tough guy; trigger happy Mandalorian Sabine, who also happens to have an artistic side; and Chopper, a sassy little astromech droid in the R2-D2 vein.
That’s the core group, and you have to imagine that “Spark of Rebellion” introduces all of the characters, shows how they get together, and paints a picture of the world. You’re also probably going to meet the villains of the series, which includes Agent Kallus and the Inquisitor.
Rebels is the first official entry into the Star Wars canon since Disney bought out Lucasfilm, and as they’re borrowing the Marvel, everything-is-connected strategy, we know the show will have connections to J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, or at least the events will echo through to that film. This just makes the series all the more interesting and gives fans of that far, far away galaxy another reason to tune in.
