This summer, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction will kickstart a new chapter in the film franchise with an all-new cast and Autobots and Decepticons that have yet to be featured in the series. Transformers 4 is looking to have a bigger box office than its predecessor Dark of the Moon while also opening up the film series to a new audience. Now Paramount has released a set of character posters that give us a look at two of the human cast member, not to mention Optimus Prime himself.

The new-and-improved Optimus Prime is front and center in the first poster, not to mention wielding a giant sword. While the sword was featured in previous marketing materials, you didn’t really get a sense of how big the weapon actually is until you see it in this poster. Optimus has a majestic, noble-warrior look to him with the fighting stance and Asian backdrop. It’s going to be interesting to see if Prime will live on past Age of Extinction.

Paramount is also highlighting the human cast as much as the actual giant freakin’ robots. A few days ago, Paramount released a character poster featuring Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yaeger, and now we’ve got two more posters that introduce Jack Reynor as Shane Dyson and Nicola Peltz as Tessa Yaeger, Cade’s teenage daughter. Dyson is a race car driver and presumed new owner of the Autobot Bumblebee. He’s also Tessa’s boyfriend.

The posters look fantastic, and the Tessa Yaeger poster features a Michael Bay staple: the American Flag. It’s kind of overkill. We’ve seen the flag in almost every shot of the trailer already, and that was just a two-and-a-half minute teaser. Just imagine how much of it we’ll get in the actual movie. I’m as patriotic as the next guy (unless the next guy is Michael Bay), but c’mon, it’s a little much.

The last poster, sporting the slogan “Transformers Are Dangerous,” is a piece of propaganda that will be featured in Age of Extinction. During the epic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons at the end of Dark of the Moon, the city of Chicago was torn apart and reduced to rubble. It looks like the filmmakers are handling those destructive events as if it were a terrorist attack on American soil. The movie also features billboards that read, “Remember Chicago.”

Age of Extinction takes place in Chicago, four years after Dark of the Moon. The movie centers on Cade’s family discovering “a buried Transformer [that] sets the stage for the return of the rest of the Transformers.” The plot also involves the U.S. Government building their own Transformers, based on technology found in the rubble in Chicago.

Transformers 4 also stars actors Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, Li Bingbing, Titus Welliver, Kelsey Grammer, and Peter Cullen. It opens everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
