The Maze RunnerEvery studio wants to produce the next Hunger Games, and if 20th Century Fox has anything to do with it, their upcoming The Maze Runner will replicate that success. The adaptation of James Dashner’s young adult novel has found its male lead in the form of Dylan O’Brien.

The 21-year-old actor is best known for playing wise-ass sidekick Stiles on MTV’s reboot of Teen Wolf, but will also appear in The Internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. He’ll play opposite Kaya Scodelario (Moon), and joins the cast that also includes Will Poulter, Amil Ameen, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

O’Brien is set to play Thomas, the main character in this futuristic, dystopian tale. He has his memory wiped out, and when he wakes up he finds himself in a large enclosed maze called the Glade. All any of the young boys within know is that the doors to the sprawling maze open up every morning, close every evening, and every 30 days a new addition to their community arrives.

When Theresa (Scodelario)—the first girl ever to enter the Glade—shows up with a surprise message, things get interesting. It turns out that she could hold the key to unlocking Thomas’ hidden memories, and it also may be his destiny to lead these “maze runners” to their ultimate freedom.

Directed by newcomer Wes Ball, The Maze Runner is the first is a trilogy, of books as well as proposed movies. Scheduled for release on February 14, 2014—Valentine’s Day—the film will begin production next month in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
