Edge Of Tomorrow Returns With Three Familiar Looking Posters

fb share tweet share

Edge of TomorrowIf you really want to, by the time the movie comes out, you could probably wallpaper an entire room with posters for Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow and never have to use the same one twice. And I mean a living room, not a bathroom or small bedroom. The upcoming sci-fi actioner has already released a serious collection of one sheets, but that didn’t stop Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow from letting three more loose upon the world.

For as many posters and banners as Edge of Tomorrow has put out into the world, there’s not a whole lot of variety. The marketing push has a very distinct look and style that they’re going for, and they’re not deviating from it at all. Every one shows an image of one or both of the stars, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, smudged up and wearing a bulky exoskeleton, superimposed over a scene of destruction or combat, or both. Often there’s an iconic landmark, like the Louvre or the Arc de Triomphe, in the background in the process of being ravaged by alien invaders. These three new offerings all fit snuggly into that family.

Edge Of Tomorrow Pics Show Off Tom Cruise’s Exoskeleton And Emily Blunt’s Guns

CruiseWith Doug Liman’s future-war flick Edge of Tomorrow due to premiere its first trailer in the near future, it showed off several viral images yesterday, and now USA Today has debuted new shots of its two photogenic leads, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The former is kitted out in one of the film’s trademark exosuits, and the latter looks like she could beat me at arm wrestling even without the mechanical help. Pretty sure I could still take Cruise though, but that’s mainly because I always keep a throw-down bag of eye-sand in my back pocket, but I’m far too chivalrous to use it on Blunt.

Edge of Tomorrow plays like a gritty, sci-fi version of Groundhog Day, with Cruise playing William Cage, a soldier in a war between humanity and aliens. When he’s killed in action, his story doesn’t end — instead he finds himself reliving the same day over and over. Thankfully he carries over his memories and skills each time, so he works to figure out how to break the cycle and save his own ass, as well as presumably turn the tide of the war, save the day, and kiss the girl. So it goes.

Edge Of Tomorrow Pics Showcase A Brutal Future War

Edge1The upcoming Tom Cruise science fiction flick Edge of Tomorrow is set to release its first trailer later online this Wednesday, and likely also in front of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in theaters this Friday. To help stir up a little attention for the somewhat under-the-radar flick, the production has launched the “Embedded UDF” twitter feed, which describes itself as a “war feed from Verdun, France.” The UDF is short for the European Army’s “United Defense Force.” Sacre bleu!

Oblivion’s Tom Cruise On What Drew Him To The Project

Jack Harper Looking Out!While Joseph Kosinski’s follow-up to Tron: Legacy has already opened internationally, Oblivion won’t open in the U.S. until this Friday. It’s the first big science fiction film in a year full of them, including Star Trek Into Darkness, Pacific Rim, and After Earth, just to name a few. Whether the film succeeds as a whole remains to be seen, but there’s no question that Joseph Kosinski has created a visually spectacular world. But for lead actor Tom Cruise, the appeal of the project all came down to character.

In an interview with Flicks and Bits, the 50-year-old actor talked openly about why he was drawn to Oblivion. Here’s Cruise:

Jack is a futuristic blue collar guy, basically. At the start of the film he believes he’s the last man on Earth. He’s a guy who fixes drones and he’s in charge of security for the resource gatherers and those big machines that are gathering up Earth’s sea water, to be utilized for the new colony on Titan. And that’s his job, everyday he goes down to Earth while Victoria stays in the Skytower and he’s essentially just fixing the drones and trying to not get killed (laughs). But Jack, he feels such a pull to Earth, that this is his home – I think that’s a big theme in the film: what is your home?

Tom Cruise Will Wake You Up In This Oblivion Clip

How would you react if you woke up out of a deep sleep—we’re talking about a six-decade nap here—and found yourself in a creepy, sterile lab, with Tom Cruise looming over you? Your response might look something like this new clip from Joseph Kosinski’s (Tron: Legacy) new sci-fi adventure, Oblivion.

The video shows Julia (Olga Kurylenko) in that exact scenario. After her spaceship, or pod or whatever, crashes to Earth, Jack Harper (Cruise) rescues her. She regains consciousness in the Skytower, where Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) attempts to poke her with a fancy, futuristic hypodermic needle, presumably loaded with a sedative. As you can imagine, Julia isn’t super psyched about the situation.

Oblivion IMAX Poster Shows Tom Cruise Staring Off Into The Abyss

For a movie like Oblivion, you’re either with it or you’re not. It’s looking to be the first major blockbuster of 2013 that doesn’t involve James Franco wearing a top hat. So even if this isn’t your particular brand of sci-fi tea, you’ll have to put up with it as it rakes in all that Tom Cruise cash that Jack Reacher forgot to keep earning.

A lot of that money is going to come from the Oblivion‘s IMAX release, which the film was pretty much intended for, as this featurette explained. So it makes absolute sense that it would also get an IMAX-exclusive poster, as seen above. A poster that I’m sure inspired many people to holler out, “Jump! Jump!”
