Tom Cruise is known for doing his own crazy stunts, especially in his Mission: Impossible films, but one of his upcoming projects will be his craziest yet. Cruise is teaming up with his Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman to film a movie in space. This project, which Universal is funding to the tune of $200 million, will also make Cruise the first civilian to do a spacewalk. (via Variety)

Tom Cruise will become the first civilian to perform a spacewalk when he films his upcoming movie shot in outer space.

Tom Cruise talked about the upcoming space film at his Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere in New York, saying, “We’ve been working on it diligently and we’ll see where we go.” There are hardly any details about the film at this point, but Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Film Entertainment Group, said that the majority of the film would take place on Earth, with Cruise’s character needing to go to space to “save the day.

Langley made these comments back in 2022, so it’s possible that things have changed since then.

Tom Cruise’s space film will take a lot of coordination to pull off, as the film will be shot on the International Space Station, and SpaceX is supposed to help with the endeavor as well. It won’t be the first time that the ISS is used as the set for a feature film.

Russian actress Julia Peresild and filmmaker Klim Shipenko shot a film in 2021 on the ISS about a surgeon responding to an emergency situation with a cosmonaut.

The film will be shot on the International Space Station, and SpaceX is supposed to help with the endeavor as well.

Tom Cruise always gives his all in his films, and this space film should be no different. It’ll be interesting to see how the ISS is used as a plot device and how much of the movie actually ends up taking place in space. Until then, we’ll be getting a double dose of Cruise’s high-flying action antics in his next two movies.

Tom Cruise is once again returning as superspy Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which hits theaters today. The film sees Ethan going up against a powerful enemy, the likes of which he’s never faced before. For his big stunt in this film, Cruise jumped off a cliff on a motorcycle and parachuted down multiple times to get the perfect take.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. Along with Tom Cruise, the film stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny.

While the film is no doubt going to be a box office hit, Cruise and McQuarrie won’t have long to relax and enjoy the success.

According to McQuarrie, he and Tom Cruise are going to get right back to work after the press tour for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is over, as they need to start work on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.

For anyone else, that would likely be too intense of a schedule, but Cruise is undoubtedly ready for whatever crazy stunt they have planned for the next film. With Part Two reportedly being the last film in the franchise, it will almost certainly be going out with a massive bang.
