Tom Cruise Doesn’t Talk To Top Gun: Maverick Castmates For Hilarious Reason

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Lewis Pullman tells us about his life growing up in Hollywood, his ascension into worldwide fame, and, of course, Tom Cruise. Not only did Pullman, the son of Bill Pullman and Tamara Hurwitz, explain how his parents didn’t allow TV in their household despite the fact that they were both performers, the Top Gun: Maverick star revealed that he’s still in touch with everybody from the 2022 summer blockbuster in an ongoing text thread. Well, everybody except for Tom Cruise, who will gladly take a phone call from his former co-stars, but doesn’t need to be bothered with all of their memes.

“Our crew is still on a thread. Not Tom; we don’t need to bother him with all of our memes. He’s got more important stuff to do. But he’ll take a call at any point if we ever need help.”

Lewis Pullman

By the sounds of it, Tom Cruise seems to be an excellent mentor, but when you consider how prolific the 61-year-old actor is, it’s reasonable to assume that he has better things to do than pop off dozens of pictures of cats wearing funny hats.

If you’ve ever been a part of an ongoing text thread, then you know all too well what we’re talking about. It’s so easy for an important conversation to get lost in the weeds when you’re getting blasted with a deluge of unrelated content.

But it would be hilarious if Tom Cruise remained on the text thread with his castmates. The mental image of Tom Cruise getting ready to jump off of a cliff while riding a motorcycle, but stopping production because he had the sudden urge to share a peach cobbler recipe with Lewis Pullman would make for a great action comedy, and somebody should immediately get to work on this piece of fan-fiction so we can see it play out.

And it goes without question that the Mission: Impossible star and producer’s work ethic requires him to disconnect from any immediate distraction in order to fully stay in the moment, which is important when you’re working on a big-budget production, or in any work place for that matter.

Tom Cruise has seen quite the renaissance in recent years, but some could argue that he never truly went away in the first place. At the time of this writing, his top-five rated films on Rotten Tomatoes have all been filmed since 2011, telling us that he’s very much still in his prime. Four out of five of those films are from the Mission: Impossible franchise.

By the sounds of it, Tom Cruise seems to be an excellent mentor, but when you consider how prolific the 61-year-old actor is, it’s reasonable to assume that he has better things to do than pop off dozens of pictures of cats wearing funny hats.

Though Tom Cruise announced that he’ll be retiring from portraying secret agent Ethan Hunt in the highly-successful spy action film franchise, a recent GFR exclusive says that he’ll continue to work behind the scenes as a producer for the upcoming Mission: Impossible series on Paramount+ that’s currently in development.

Now that Cruise is switching gears after the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which will be his final film in the franchise, we’re curious if he’ll ask to rejoin the text thread and participate in a well-deserved meme dump with his former castmates.

Dead Reckoning Part Two

Dead Reckoning Part Two is slated for a June 28, 2024 release, and we can expect more of the same from Tom Cruise. But while we wait, it comes with strong recommendation that you check out Top Gun: Maverick if you haven’t done so already.

Though the rest of the cast doesn’t have the pleasure of regularly texting Maverick himself, their on-screen chemistry is a testament to the collaborative partnership and ongoing relationship that they’ve had since working together on the record-breaking Top Gun sequel.
