She may not be returning to Marvel – well, at least in a starring capacity – any time soon, but Scarlett Johansson is putting it out into the universe that she’s hoping for a collab with the Top Gun himself, Tom Cruise. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the star said she would love to team up with the legendary action star at some point. Known for her work in some of the biggest Marvel films in the franchise’s history, we think that the Academy Award-nominated actress would make the perfect addition to any of Tom Cruise’s upcoming projects.

With both big names having such long-spanning careers in Hollywood, it’s a little surprising that Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise haven’t already appeared in the same big-budget action movie yet. Having just brought the world to its knees with last year’s release of Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel three decades in the making, Cruise is gearing up to reprise his fan-favorite role of Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. With a sequel on the way, could it be possible that someone will hear Johansson’s wish and cast her in the follow-up Dead Reckoning film?

The films are well known for casting top-tier talent and, as Dead Reckoning Part Two, will be the eighth installment in the franchise, adding a name like Scarlett Johansson’s to the call sheet could only better the film’s performance at the box office. The upcoming title already features appearances from the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy series star Pom Klementieff, Shaun of the Dead’s Simon Pegg, and fellow Marvel alum, Hayley Atwell, meaning that Johansson could easily fit in with her MCU peers in the next movie.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Scarlett Johansson while she was enjoying a stroll down the red carpet at the premiere of her latest stacked ensemble film, Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. The actress’ first foray into the vibrant world of The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom director sees her joining an incredible lineup of other names both frequently and for the first time tied to Anderson.

Along with Scarlett Johansson, the film also stars the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, Margot Robbie, Sophia Lillis, Adrien Brody, Tony Revolori, Rupert Friend, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, and Edward Norton among others. Taking his iconic style to the middle of the desert, Anderson’s latest film will take audiences back to 1955, where they’ll tag along for the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in a small American desert town.

Beyond Asteroid City, audiences can expect to see Scarlett Johansson in Project Artemis and My Mother’s Wedding, as well as Transformers One, in which she’ll lend her vocal talents. While rumors have been swirling surrounding her future with Kevin Feige and Marvel, it sounds like she’ll eventually return to the MCU but in a behind-the-scenes production capacity.
