Animated musicals are one of the most popular genres in all of cinema, primarily dominated by the two big hitters in the industry, Disney and Pixar. However, every once in a while, there is another entry from a somewhat smaller studio in comparison that makes a splash; Dreamworks Animation is the largest competitor to those two and created one of those splashes in the 2016 film, Trolls. According to Flix PatrolTrolls is one of the most watched movies on streaming at the moment, giving the film brand new life six years after its theater domination.

Trolls is a movie with the kind of star power that can carry a film to the top of box office success, and it did to the tune of a whopping $346 million. While it picked up a healthy box office haul in its November 2016 release, it never broke the number two spot in theaters thanks to competition from the Marvel Cinematic Universe release Doctor Strange, the first film featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the character. Another movie that dropped the same day was the Andrew Garfield war drama Hacksaw Ridge

The Trolls movie features some of the most musically talented stars in the business, led by Anna Kendrick, who made her musical name by leading the Pitch Perfect franchise for three films. She is joined by Justin Timberlake, who grew to fame as one of the leaders of the pop sensation boyband, NSYNC, making the jump into the movie industry with roles in Alpha DogIn Time, and Friends with Benefits. Finally, Trolls featured the musically brilliant talents of Zooey Deschanel, who displayed her musical talent in the Will Ferrell Christmas movie Elf and her hit TV series, New Girl

Trolls is a movie that follows Poppy (Kendrick), the happiest troll of all time, and the most curmudgeonly troll, Branch (Timberlake), as they journey to save their friends when the Bergens invade Troll Village. Of course, their mission is full of conflict and mistakes as they try to accomplish the mission while also putting up with each other until they save their village. The film also stars Russell Brand, James Corden, and Gwen Stefani.

The animated feature also picked up multiple accolades despite the mediocre reviews, receiving a 75 percent from critics and a 65 percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Trolls was a movie that also picked up an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” and a Billboard Music Award for Best Original Soundtrack. The song was also recognized at the Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice, and Grammy Awards.

Thanks to Netflix, Trolls has a new life as the number four movie on the platform’s top 10 list, beat out by Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out MysteryWhite Noise, and Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. The film beat out Bullet TrainThe Invitation, and Sing 2. If you are looking for a great movie that offers cutting-edge animation and endless talent for musical entertainment, Trolls on Netflix is the perfect destination.
