Will Ferrell was unstoppable in the 2000s and one of his funniest movies is now tearing up the streaming charts. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby hit the Top 10 movies on Freevee this week and it’s just as funny as the day it came out. If you’re looking for a Ferrell classic to check out this week, this is your sign.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby stars Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby, who races with his best friend and teammate Cal Naughton, Jr. (John C. Reilly). But a French Formula One driver (Sacha Baron Cohen) arrives on the scene to challenge their status. The movie also stars Gary Cole, Michael Clarke Duncan, Leslie Bibb, Jane Lynch, and Amy Adams along with cameos from NASCAR drivers Jamie McMurray and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby was yet another massive hit for Will Ferrell and frequent collaborator Adam McKay, who directed and co-wrote the movie. The film was a critical success bringing laughs in spades. It was also a financial success, raking in $163 million at the global box office.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay were pretty much guaranteed to make a hit movie after releasing Anchorman in 2004 and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby did not disappoint. The two would keep their hot streak going in subsequent years with Step Brothers and The Other Guys. The two haven’t worked together as a director/lead actor combo since Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues in 2013.

Fortunately, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have worked together on many quality movies and TV shows since then, albeit in producer and executive producer roles. Most recently, they produced the dark comedy The Menu, which starred Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes. They’re both executive producers on the fantastic show Succession as well, which has earned critical acclaim and numerous Emmys throughout its three seasons.

Still, it’s great to go back to Adam McKay and Will Ferrell’s early days, as their unique brand of comedy is timeless and still hilarious to this day. Which is why it’s no surprise that Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby has climbed the streaming charts on Freevee so quickly. Undoubtedly, it’ll continue to dominate the streaming charts over the weekend.

It should also help hold Will Ferrell fans over until his next movie. Perhaps the most anticipated movie on his docket is Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively. The star-studded film is directed by Greta Gerwig and also features the talents of Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, and Kate McKinnon.

While Barbie doesn’t come out until July 21, 2023, you can actually catch Will Ferrell’s most recent movie role now on Apple TV+. Ferrell starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in Spirited, a musical and modern remake of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Ferrell stars as the current Ghost of Christmas Present, who wants to help the irredeemable soul of Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) before he retires.

While Spirited isn’t quite the Christmas classic that Elf became, it’s still a fun ride and a holiday-friendly Will Ferrell movie. Otherwise, you could just throw on Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. In either case, a Will Ferrell watch party seems like the perfect way to spend the holidays this year.
